End Of November Fixtures
A reminder of the three upcoming games to end November for our men's and women's teams.
We might be approaching the end of November but there are still a trilogy of games coming up at Champion Hill before December comes around, with two for our men's side, and a huge game for the women's side sandwiched in between!
Dulwich Hamlet vs Chelsea U21s, Friendly, Saturday 26th November, 13:00
Due to Ebbsfleet United reaching the Second Round of the FA Cup, our clash with the Fleet that was scheduled for this weekend was scrapped, with the rearranged game now taking place in the New Year. This meant that we were facing the prospect of having no home game on a Saturday between the Hampton & Richmond Borough game on November 5th and the visit of Concord Rangers on December 17th.
Despite having a couple of midweek games coming up, Saturday games are hugely profitable for the club, as gate receipts and bar takings on these days are how we make the majority of our money during the season. So a decision was made to find a friendly match for this Saturday, and against an attractive name too.
Fortunately, Paul Barnes is good friends with former AFC Wimbledon manager Mark Robinson, who took up the position of Head Coach of the Chelsea Development Squad during the summer, and arranged for the Under 21s to come down to Champion Hill to face our first team. The Blues sit in seventh in Division 1 of the Premier League 2, having picked up 17 points so far this season, but are only three points off top-of-the-table Arsenal. Robinson's side have also advanced to the knockout stage of the EFL Trophy this season, having topped a group stage containing the first teams of Sutton United, Oxford United and Leyton Orient.
Tickets for this game can be found at https://bit.ly/3En1P3r, with prices of £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and Under 13s remain free of charge. Gates will open from 12:30pm.
Dulwich Hamlet Women vs Gillingham, Women's FA Cup Second Round, Sunday 27th November, 14:00
The history makers just keep on going! The first Hamlet side, men or women, to EVER reach the Second Round of the FA Cup, and the Pepper Army will be welcoming Tier 3 opposition Gillingham to Champion Hill.
Incredible memories have already been made on this run already, a Sophie Manzi hat-trick at Tunbridge Wells, Izzy Franklin scoring directly from a corner, Lily Price with two stunners in the win over Winchester City Flyers, before the comeback win at misty Aylesford thanks to captain Saylor's bullet header and the second-half brace from Lucy Monkman last week.
Add to the mix the fact that we have scored thirty goals in our last seven games, and are on the longest unbeaten run in our history, and the support has been unrivalled in recent weeks, and it all makes for an exciting outing this Sunday. Gillingham will be a sterner test though, playing in the Southern Premier Division of the Women's National League, and have already knocked out our league rivals Millwall Lionesses, albeit on penalties.
We are hoping to beat the 582 attendance we reached in the FA Cup in 2020 against Leyton Orient and would love to have as many fans come down as possible, buy your tickets here - https://bit.ly/3TLIH4v. Tickets are just £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and Under 13s are free. Gates will open from 13:00pm.
Dulwich Hamlet vs Cray Wanderers, London Senior Cup Second Round, Wednesday 30th November, 19:45pm
Like Lord of the Rings, our third instalment of the "end of November" trilogy sees the Return of the King, specifically the King of Camberwell, as we welcome back Nyren Clunis for the first time since his departure in 2020.
Scorer of more than a century of goals in almost 500 games, Nyren was a mainstay of the two promotion winning sides under Gavin Rose, a trusted lieutenant on the right wing, and it was well known in Tuscany that he would make Messi look s***e.
He returns with current club Cray Wanderers in Round Two of the London Senior Cup, and will be one of four ex-Hamlet men among the ranks of London's oldest football clubs, along with Anthony Cook, David Ijaha and Tom Derry.
Despite the longevity of Nyren's time with us, even he did not taste victory in this old competition, as the last Hamlet side to do so was the 2004 crop, with two Omari Coleman goals earning us a 2-0 win over fierce rivals Tooting and Mitcham United.
Tickets for the Cray game can be found at https://bit.ly/3hLR5E5, tickets costing just £6 for adults, £3 for concessions and Under 13s are free.
