Farnborough 1-4 Dulwich Hamlet
Dulwich completed a comfortable victory over Farnborough including a last minute goal from Daniel Sweeney on his debut.
Dulwich completed an ultimately comfortable victory over Farnborough with goals from Damian Scannell, Danny Waldren, Ashley Carew & Daniel Sweeney.
There was little of note in the game in the early stages although the home side looked bright without really threatening the Hamlet goal.
Dulwich grabbed a 12th minute lead with their first meaningful attack. Ashley Carew found Damian Scannell, who then played the ball into the feet of Jacob Erskine. He fed it wide to the left to Jordan Brown.whose cross was perfectly delivered for the onrushing Scannell to slam home.
Dulwich went close again 3 minutes later as Erskine showed good strength to hold off his marker before laying the ball off to Daniel Sweeney. His shot was just wide. Scannell then threaded a pass through the middle of the home defence but Tupper in the home goal just got there before Erskine.
Whenever Farnborough threatened they were held at bay by a solid Hamlet defence and unable to call Wilson into actio. Therefore, it was no surprise when Dulwich doubled their lead after 28 minutes.
This time more slick passing again got the ball out to Brown on the left. His cross was met by a firm header from 15 yards out by skipper Danny Waldren that beat Tupper in the home goal.
Dulwich were very comfortable and could have had further goals before the half time break. Sweeney had an effort deflected wide, Nelson & Scannell then both failed to get shots away when well placed and
Tupper saved well from Murrell-Williamson.
Half Time 0-2
Dulwich were quickly into their stride at the start of the second half. Within a minute of the restart Pinnock played a delightful ball down the left to Murrell-Williamson. He raced to the byeline and delivered a cross that deflected off his marker and looped over the keeper. However, the danger was averted by Cole heading it behind for a corner.
However, it wasn't long before Dulwich got their third. Damian Scannell chased s through ball on the Dulwich right and showed good strength to shrug off his marker. He advanced into the penalty area where he was sent crashing by a clumsy challenge. Ashley Carew converted from the spot to seemingly secure the points with 40 minutes still to play.
Danny Waldren almost had a fourth in the 52nd minute but his low shot from the edge of the box, after a good cut back from Erskine, was well saved low to his left by Tupper. Rhys Murrell-Williamson then had an effort just too high before Dulwich seemed to decide that the game was won.
This was the cue for Farnborough to come right back into the game. Slack defending allowed Wright to score with a well struck volley in the 57th minute. Ethan Pinnock was booked for a foul on the edge of the box and Wilson was happy to push the ball wide from the resultIing free kick. The Hamlet keeper then made a fine save as he got out quickly to block an effort.
Jordan Brown was then caught napping by a ball over the top and Dulwich were pleased to see the low cross elude any home forwards.
Having weathered this period Dulwich were able to reestablish their dominance through retaining possession, as they has done earlier. Although they seldom looked likely to add to the lead, there were no further defensive alarms.
In fact Dulwich managed to add a fourth in the last minute. Jordan Hibbert crossed low from the right and Daniel Sweeney capped a fine debut with a shot that was deflected into the net.
