FREE cinema at the ground tonight
Don't forget it's Day Two of theCamberwell Free Film Festival & tonight we are hosting a showing of a football themed film
The Camberwell Free Film Festival opened yesterday, & once more Dulwich Hamlet Football Club are pleased to be a part of it, by allowing our Clubhouse to be one of the many local venues used by this superb community initiative.
The film being shown tonight is Next Goal Wins (Dir: Mike Brett,/Steve Jamison, 2014, US, Cert 15, 97min) & is an object lesson in what it really means to be a winner in life through equality, friendship and teamwork.
Next Goal Wins is about the power of hope in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds for the worst international football team in the world.
In 2001, the tiny Pacific island of American Samoa suffered a world record 31-0 defeat at the hands of Australia, garnering headlines across the world as the worst football team on the planet.
A decade after that humiliating night, they remain rooted to the bottom of FIFA's World rankings, having scored only twice in seventeen years. It would take a miracle-maker or a madman to turn the team's fortunes around - and in maverick Dutch coach Thomas Rongen the islanders somehow find both.
As if you need reminding, it is a FREE event. No tickets required, arrive early to get the best seats. The bar will be open, and the film starts at 8.00pm
