Dulwich welcomed back Dumebi Dumaka from injury although lost Sanchez Ming to suspension and were still without Gavin Tomlin through suspension. Dulwich also welcomed back Rhys Murrell-Williamson who came on for his first appearance of the season.
This was a game where Dulwich always seemed to be in control although the home side could never be faulted for effort and kept trying to exert pressure right to the end.
The first chance arrived in the 3rd minute when a Nyren Clunis cross flashed across goal, whilst Preston Edwards was called into action for the first time just a minute later when he comfortably saved a low shot from distance.
Dumebi Dumaka and Daniel Carr combined well but Carr's shot was comfortably saved by home keeper Amadou Tangara before the next chance arrived in the 18th minute. Nathan Ferguson gave the ball to Nyren Clunis but Dumaka and Carr seemed to get in each other's way when the cross came in and Dumaka blazed his effort too high.
Dulwich thought they had taken the lead in the 24th minute when Nyren Clunis delivered a cross that Dumaka tucked into the far corner, but celebrations were halted by an offside flag.
Dumaka was then scythed down on the edge of the box but Ashley Carew's free kick came to nothing. Preston Edwards then had to save a header from Lheureux Menga whilst Danny Carr was foiled one on one by Tangara.
Dumaka then had an effort just too high, one beaten out by Tangara and a third effort deflected wide, although Grays also wasted a good chance when Michael Chambers allowed a cross field pass to reach Harry Watkins who fired high and wide.
Half Time 0-0
It took Dulwich only until the 51st minute to take the lead as the pressure finally told. An effort deflected to Dumebi Dumaka who turned his marker and fired home.
Danny Carr had a good chance to double the lead just four minutes later when he was released free on goal but his effort was saved by Tangara. Carr missed another presentable chance just past the hour before the game became more disjointed amidst a raft of substitutions.
After some confusion about the changes, Rhys Murrell-Williamson came on to replace Danny Carr, with Ibra Sekajja replacing Ashley Carew, as Dulwich looked to grab a second.
Grays came very close to equalising wish eight minutes remaining when a header from Wilson was hooked off the line amidst vehement claims from the home side, and their supporters, that the ball had crossed the line.
Kenny Beaney delivered a free kick that went just wide after being missed by all those in and around the six yard box before Dulwich scored a bizarre second goal in stoppage time.
Matt Drage gave away a free kick close to the edge of the penalty area but Joao Carlos saw his effort deflected over the bar. For the resulting corner, Grays pushed everybody into the penalty area, including keeper Tangara.
Dulwich managed to clear the ball to the edge of the area where Tangara tried to return it back into the box but was dispossessed. Nyren Clunis picked up the loose ball and raced clear before shooting into the empty net.
