Greenwich Borough 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Greenwich Borough 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

A strong Dulwich side overcame a youthful Greenwich Borough with both their goals coming within the first 15 minutes.

Gavin Rose rang the changes with Sanchez Ming back from suspension at right back and a new centre back partnership of Marc Weatherstone & Quade Taylor. Roman Michael-Percil, Daniel Carr & Kadell Daniel were also given starting places.

It was Greenwich Borough who had the first shot on target but Preston Edwards got down low to his right to hold the effort from Mohamed Eisa. However, it was Dulwich who quickly took a firm grip.

After Nathan Green had headed a Gavin Tomlin corner just wide, Dulwich went ahead in the 10th minute. Gavin Tomlin picked up the ball and spread it wide left to Kadell Daniel. His cross was converted at the far post by Roman Michael-Percil for his first competitive goal for The Hamlet.

Two minutes later the lead was doubled. This time Tomlin found Roman Michael-Percil who turned provider for Daniel Carr to convert his cross.

Dulwich could easily have added to the lead as Carr volleyed a cross from Tomlin too high, whilst Tomlin created space in the box but Hughes blocked his shot.

Roman Michael-Percil was regularly getting around the outside of his marker but his crosses evaded their intended targets. However, the pace of Eisa was also troubling the Dulwich defence on the rare occasions that Greenwich were able to mount attacks. From one of these Marc Weatherstone managed to muscle him off the ball as he looked to get in behind.

Despite having almost total control, a rash challenge from Weatherstone in the 29th minute led to the home side being awarded a penalty. Eisa placed his penalty to the right of Preston Edwards but the Hamlet keeper guessed right and pushed it away.

Dulwich went back on the attack and a Nathan Green cross found Daniel Carr but his effort was blocked and Roman Michael-Percil had an effort that went wide.

Two minutes from the break Kadell Daniel came close to grabbing a third goal when he created space on the edge of the box but saw his effort come back into play off the woodwork.

Half Time 0-2

The second half was extremely slow to produce any action and there was very little of any note until Dulwich gifted the home side a route back into the game in the 73rd minute. Preston Edwards tried to pass to Nathan Green but instead passed the ball straight to Jake Britnell who made no mistake.

Dulwich tried to reassert their earlier dominance and Gavin Tomlin fired too high after Ibra Sekajja had set him up. An Ashley Carew free kick found the head of Daniel Carr and his goal bound header was brilliantly turned over by Hughes.

Roman Michael-Percil headed a Sekajja cross wide, Nathan Green had an effort cleared off the line and Carr had a low effort pushed behind by Hughes as Dulwich looked to make the game safe but couldn't find the third goal.

However, they had no real defensive alarms and held on to take their place in the next round.

Final Score 1-2
