Hemel Hempstead Town 3-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Hemel Hempstead Town 3-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich crashed out of the FA Cup with a disappointing second half that meant the hosts fully deserved their place in the final qualifying round.

It was Hemel Hempstead who settled quicker into the game with their lively forwards causing the Dulwich defence problems and their midfield closing The Hamlet down quickly.

However, there were few chances of note although Hemel did miss a good chance as a shot was fired wide with only Phil Wilson to beat. Dulwich came more into the game and it was they who took the lead in the 23rd minute as Erhun Oztumer was released on goal and he exquisitely chipped the advancing Walker in the Hemel goal.

The lead lasted only 3 minutes as Kevin James appeared to be fouled in the centre circle but the referee waved play on and a pass was slipped through the defence for Ben Mackey to beat Wilson easily.

From then up until half-time the game was fairly even but it was Dulwich who created the better chances as Erhun Oztumer fired just wide from inside the box, although he appeared to be fouled in the act of shooting, and Mathieu Boyer twice forced fine saves from Walker in the home goal.

Hiualf time changed everything and Hemel Hempstead were to boss the second half from the moment that Lewis Toomey gave them the lead 3 minutes after half time. A slick move opened up the left side of the Dulwich defence and Toomey was free at the far post to slam Hemel into the lead.

Dulwich just couldn't get their passing game going and were unable to retain possession at the front; consequently the defence became overworked as the home side poured forward. Only some good last ditch defending and fine goalkeeping from Phil Wilson prevented Hemel from adding a third.

However, on a rare break out Ian Daly was sent free but his shot was blocked by Walker as he flew out of his goal to block, picking up an injury in the process.

The third goal did arrive on 72 minutes as substitute Charlie Mpi was left unattended in the box to convert a cut back from The Hamlet left and seal a deserved win for Hemel.

The afternoon finished on a sour note for Dulwich as Jerome Walker, who had endured a frustrating afternoon, lunged into a challenge and can have no complaints about the red card that he received.

Gavin Rose rang the changes from the bench but couldn't conjure up a comeback.
