Hemel travel details
Tomorrow it's the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup, & the locals are expecting a four figure crowd!
So we will need as many Hamlet fans there as possible to cheer on our boys, and outsing the home fans!
Hemel Hempstead is not that far to travel, and you can get direct trains there from Clapham Junction.
The following info was posted by Pink Panther on the independent Dulwich Hamlet Supporters forum:
"Just a warning that the bus timetable for route 320, which is listed as running from Hemel Hempstead station to the ground in the directions on HHTFCs website (and reproduced in our match programme on Saturday), shows that the route only extends as far as the station during weekday rush hours and evenings, which is a fat lot of use on Saturday! The rest of the time it only starts from Hemel Hempstead Riverside Stop 26, which is at least half a mile from the station in the town centre, leaving on the hour and half hour with a journey time of 12 mins. Alternatively you can catch the same bus from the opposite direction at Watford Junction station Stop 5. It is timetabled to leave there at 19 & 49 mins past the hour and journey time to Adeyfield (the area where the ground is) takes 36 mins."
The detailed information on getting to the ground here is taken from the official Hemel Hempstead Town website:
Information for Away Supporters visiting Vauxhall Road
ABOUT VAUXHALL ROAD
There is usually only one turnstile open so don’t leave it too late to arrive as there is usually a queue leading up to kick off.
For league games, entrance is as follows:
£10 for adults
£6 concessions and military personnel (ID required)
£3 for under 18s
£1 for under 12s
Free for under 5s
Upon entry to the ground, club shop is on the left, burger van on the right, clubhouse/bar further to the right and toilets in the bottom corner. There are large covered terraces at either end of the pitch and a covered all-seater stand running along the opposite side of the pitch to where you enter the ground. Just to the left of the entrance is a very small covered partially seated stand but comfort and view aren’t great here.
Bar prices are decent enough, the burger van food is the typical quality/price of these vans. Programme is £2 and available inside the ground along with 50/50 tickets. The 50/50 ticket draw is held at half-time and announced over the tannoy.
On most match days, the 3G pitch will be open to children free of charge for a kick about whilst you enjoy the match. Don't forget to bring a ball!
Parking
There is a small car park at Vauxhall Road. It fills quickly and can be a pain to exit. Try to park on Vauxhall Road; the further up you go the more likely you are to find a space or even turn left into Farland Road for a clearer road to park on. If arriving early enough, have a drink in the nearby Crabtree pub and leave your car there (see below).

If in doubt of a game being on, you should check the official website www.hemelfc.com or the forum (link on the main webpage). Other than that, phone the club on 01442 251521 or check twitter @hemelfc
GETTING TO VAUXHALL ROAD
By Train
Hemel Hempstead Railway Station is on the London Midland line.
Getting to the ground from the station: There is a taxi rank outside the station, and taxi firm (Millennium 01442 247247) has an office at the ground which will sort you out for the return journey.
Or, take Bus number 320 from Stop 'A' outside the station, depart at High Street Green, Adeyfield (ask the driver to let you off at the stop on Adeyfield Road just before the junction with Leverstock Green Road). Arriva Timetable
You have a 200 metre walk, turn right at Adeyfield Road into Leverstock Green Road, walk past the Crabtree pub on your right, turn right in to Vauxhall Road - ground will be on your right hand side at the roundabout.
By Car
M25
Leave at Junction 21 for the M1 North, then follow M1 directions below.
M1
Leave at Junction 8, straight over (2nd exit) first roundabout, straight over (2nd exit) second roundabout at which point you need to get in the right hand lane - take first right across the dual carriageway which leads in to Leverstock Green Road. First left at mini-roundabout into Vauxhall Road, the entrance to the ground is on the right hand side by an out of place looking roundabout.
A41
Leave at Hemel Hempstead, straight over cross roads and head to the "Magic Roundabout". Panic if you're from out of town as you face six mini-roundabouts around one big roundabout. In this order, go right, left, right across the mini roundabouts on to the A414 heading towards the M1 (or, as best as you can, just follow signs for the M1 motorway). Head up the A414 then at the first roundabout (Tesco on right hand side) go straight over or avoid it altogether by staying in left hand slip lane. Second roundabout, straight over (2nd exit), then take Leverstock Green Road which will be the 3rd left. Then take the first left at mini-roundabout in to Vauxhall Road, the entrance to the ground is on the right hand side by an out of place looking roundabout.
For a Quick(er) Getaway from Vauxhall Road:
Upon arrival at Hemel, drive past the ground and park and as far up Vauxhall Road as possible, facing the junction with Longlands. You're a very brief walk from the ground. After the game, walk back to your car past the fools edging their cars slowly out of the packed car park, drive out of Vauxhall Road, left into Longlands, left on to the dual carriageway and then you're on your way back to the M1 without the hassle of negotiating your way out/past the busy football ground.
LOCAL PUBS/EATERIES/SHOPS/ATTRACTIONS
The Tudor Tavern bar at the Vauxhall Road ground is open matchdays, the entrance to which is within the ground so you would have to enter via turnstile to gain entry. There is a good selection of drinks, the bar is small but comfortable, you'll find somewhere to sit or something to lean on, there are 3 screens that will be showing live ESPN or Sky Sports if there is a football/rugby game on or Sky Sports News if there's nothing else going on. Kids are welcome.
The Crabtree is the nearest pub, just around the corner from the ground on Leverstock Green Road. If travelling by car, ignore the turning in to Vauxhall Road and you'll see the pub on your left. It is a large pub with good selection of drink and decent food, big car park, but no TV's for Sky Sports etc. Ember Inn Hemel
If you're having a pre-match drink here you'd get away with leaving your car in the car park and walking the short journey to the ground. You have a 150 metre walk from here, turn right out of the pub on to Leverstock Green Road, turn right in to Vauxhall Road - ground will be on your right hand side. The Crabtree now allow children as long as they're with adults in the dedicated family seating area. They may be fussy about football shirts depending on their attitude on the day. If there's a bunch of you in football shirts or you have kids that won't settle well in the family area, play it safe and head to the club for your pre-match drink.
If arriving in Hemel by train with some time to kill, there is a Harvester next to the station.
If you arrive early for a midweek game and fancy a curry, ignore the turning in to Vauxhall Road when you're on Leverstock Green Road, go past the Crabtree on the left and turn right at the mini roundabout in to Wood Lane End, take the third left in to Mark Road and the Red Rose is on the left hand side. Red Rose Indian
Opened in September 2012, there is now a Toby Carvery just 8-10 minutes walk away. From the ground, turn left towards Leverstock Green Road, then right towards St Albans road, turn left onto the dual carriageway and the Carvery is about 350m on your left. Toby Carvery
Cox’s Pond store is at the junction with Vauxhall Road/Leverstock Green Road. Small supermarket/newsagent and does the lottery. DO NOT leave your car parked outside here during the game!
If you happen to arrive in Hemel very early, are making a day of it or need somewhere to drop the missus/kids while you're at the match, probably best to use a Satnav to find your way around as there are far too many roundabouts in our town for us to write directions which won’t confuse you.
From Hemel's town centre you're a 10 minute drive to Vauxhall Road depending on traffic. Hemel's central shopping location is at Marlowes, set your satnav to Wolsey Road for the Marlowes Shopping Centre car park which is also adjacent to Riverside Shopping Centre (parking fee's start at £1.50 for 2hrs)
Riverside Hemel
The Marlowes Hemel
For a better selection of pubs and a few restaurants, visit Hemel's "Old Town" - set your satnav for High Street (pay and display starts at 30p per hour). Hemel Old Town
Closer to Vauxhall Road is Jarman Park (all free parking, set your satnav for Jarman Way) where there is "Leisureworld" featuring Aquasplash, an Empire Cinema and a Pizza Hut, the XC Centre next door has skating/BMXing, rock climbing and caving (The XC), there's a large Tesco and finally a McDonalds. The 10-pin bowling in Leisureworld has sadly closed down, as has the bar, the nightclub and the games area. Needless to say, the place is looking rather downtrodden, with Aquasplash recently being described as “the faulty towers of splash parks”. Plans are afoot for major redevelopment of Leisureworld, so check back at a later date.
There is also The Snow Centre, an indoor ski slope, which is very popular. The Snow Centre
Everyone always looks out for the Wetherspoons when visiting a new town; ours is The Full House at the junction with Marlowes and Combe Street. Like all Weatherspoons across the country, it's full of the social underclasses drinking themselves to a slow and painful death, but at least it's cheap. You won’t be able to park anywhere nearby for free, nearest car park is at Waterhouse Street, pay & display starts at 70p per hour.
Petrol Stations:
If you're arriving in Hemel via the M1, there is a BP just as you exit the motorway at Hemel and there is a Shell just before the M1 on your way out of Hemel. The above mentioned Tesco also has a petrol station which you'll pass if arriving via A41.
Cash Points:
Cash points are situated at the following locations detailed above: One Stop, BP, Tesco, Leisureworld, also if you're heading to the Red Rose you'll pass branches of Natwest, LloydsTSB and Barclays at Wood Lane End.
