In the local press
Here we feature what our two local papers had to say about The Hamlet in the last coouple of days.
Thursday saw the weekly edition of the 'Southwark News', and they led with the coming games at the weekend & Danny Carr's return to play against us:
Hamlet go Casual before homecoming
Dulwich Hamlet will spend the weekend playing the Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase at corinthian Casuals before welcoming home an old friend next Tuesday.
Daniel Carr, whose goals helped secure Hamlet's first title for 35 years last season, comes back to his old stomping ground with new club huddersfield Town next week.
The game, which is part of the deal that saw the teenager move up north, kicks off at the ealrier time of 7pm at Champion Hill.
Club Secretary Martin Eede told the News: "Mark Robins is set to come down with his Championship side and we are expecting another good gate and a good game. We had a crowd of 318 for the win against dagenham last week and they saw a good performance from us. The win was all the more impressive as they had a couple of games under their belt and we didn't. I'm expecting another good game against Huddersfield and it will be good for people to come and see Daniel as he did so much to help us to promotion last season."
Before that happens Gavin Rose will bring a squad to King George's Fields to take part in a four team competition that also includes Carshalton Athletic, who Hamlet play on Saturday, and Kingstonian who take on the hosts on the same day.
The winners of the Saturday games will play each other for the Vase on Sunday, at 3pm, whilst the losers will also play a game at 11am.
Yesterday, in the weekend edition of the 'South London Press', the coverage concentrated more on one of eciting young prospects, who is being eyed up by a number of professional outfits:
Vidal may be next to Bolt away
Dulwich Hamlet are weighing up whether to consider offers for Xavier Vidal. The Champion Hill teenager, 18, had a trial spell with Bolton Wanderers last season, and they are one of a number of Championship sides expressing an interest in his services. Dulwich have produced a string of youngsters in recent years that have made the jump into the Football League. And boss Gavin Rose believes it is only a matter of time before Vidal- who played over 30 times for the club on their way to promotion from Ryman Division One South last season -also flies the nest. He said: " Xavier will move eventually. There has been a lot of interest and we are weighing up, with the squad that we have got, whether we can afford to let him go before the season starts or would we need him as part of our team and squad until January or next summer. When he was at Bolton he was still in our youth team but trained with their U21 squad which was quite a mature group-going into that at 17 he was good enough technically but not physically. Bolton have said they'd like to have him back. What we don't want is Xavier to be training here, there and everywhere. We have to think about his career and not just let him go for the sake of it. I've spoken to my management team and the owners, just in terms of what our best team is if he does go and what we have got behind, can we cope? It's about the best scenario for us and for Xavier." He is going to get better and stronger because he is on the upward curve."
Dulwich won both their friendly matches this week. They were 4-0 winners over Holmesdale at Priory School in Orpington on Wednesday night. Ryan James opened the scoring before Karl Beckford converted a free-kick from 20 yards. Connor French struck the bar but then added a third. Junior James thumped an emphatic fourth from just inside the box.
Hamlet were6-3 voctors at Beckenham Town on tuesday but were pushed hard by the Southern Counties East Football League side. Dulwich's scorers were Junior James (2), Vidal, Erhun Oztumer, Ellis Green, Billy Crook and Nassim Dukali.
