It's been a while...

It's been a while...

So it was time to collar First Team manager GAVIN ROSE for another little chat

It must have been incredibly disappointing for the Horsham game to be postponed on Saturday

"To be honest, it wasn't so much disappointing that the game was called off, as the pitch wasn't really in a fit state to play. I'm disappointed that our fans and the players had to go down there without knowing it was in doubt.. Disappointing was the lack of professionalism from Horsham, who should really have pre-warned us, and could have saved some people the journey."

So are we jinxed with postponements? The pitch looked playable from the sidelines on Saturday, a crazy decision on top of the bizarre abandonment last week at Leatherhead.

" It definately wasn't a crazy decision on Saturday, once you got onto parts of the pitch you could sink into the mud, & the ball wouldn't bounce in places, so that one was correct. The abandonment? Yeah, crazy is about right. The referee must take full blame for speaking to the other two officials and the Leatherhead players, but he didn't speak to myself or the Leatherhead manager at all, except to say the game was off. He should have taken more time to come to his decison. I think the result should have stood. The referee didn't make the right decision, it wasn't thought out. But what has happened has happened. My focus is all on the Kingstonian game in the League Cup tomorrow night."

As you say, Kingstonian in the quarter finals on Tuesday. With games now almost every Tuesday & then Saturday, will cup games play second fiddle?

"It's too early to say, we'll have to wait and see. My first priority is to get promoted & hopefully win the League. But it's always my priority to win every game we play, so wait and see who we play."

Despite the game being off at Horsham, the players were in good spirit in the bar, 'team bonding',if you like, having a drink or two. Is this all part of the preparation for the tough run in?

"Not preparation no, but to be honest everyone's working really hard to get the right spirit in the dressing room, & everyone gets on really well, as some of the fans saw. The lads like each other, & the boys were enjoying themselves. There's a really good team spirit, which we try to foster."

Our next League game is at home to Merstham, this coming Saturday. Three points hopefully...

"Yes, as you say, hopefully. They've got some good players who know this division and the league above, so they will be good opponents, we can't take anything for granted. Obviously our game against Kingstonian comes first, after that I'll start thinking about Saturday."

In the local newspapers last we it was reported that Ethan Pinnock is out for the rest of the season. That's a bit of a blow?

"Well that wasn't from me, I don't know where that came from. We're uncertain at the moment, it could be a month, it could be the end of the season. As much as we obviously miss him being in contention we've done ok without him so far, which is a bonus for us, rather than decribing him being out as a blow."

On a positive note it was a good win for the Youth Team yesterday, winning 3-1 away to Glebe, to reach the semi-finals of their League Cup.

"Definately, they haven't played many games lately. To be honest the final result of three one flattered the opposition a little, without being disrespectful to them. It was a good performance from us."

And finally, while on the subject of the youngsters, you've put Abdul Mansaray on contract. This is down to the "12th Man" fund run by the supporters, isn't it?

"Yes it is. They came to me & told me what they could offer, & I decided to give him & the Club some security, & put faith in him. It's great that the supporters are helping the Club like this, as we wouldn't be able to sign these youngsters & secure them as contract players. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, & hope this news enocurages mores fans to do so."
