Liberty takers!

Liberty takers!

It was a proud moment for Supporters' Trust Board member Darren McCreery, as he was chosen to pick up a special honour for our Club yesterday

A contingent of four, representing The Hamlet, were at Southwark Cathedral for the annual Southwark Civic Awards, which honours individuals & organisations for exceptional achievement in our our great & historic borough.

Also there, proudly watching Darren receive a ceremonial scroll from the outgoing Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Dora Dixon-McFyle MBE, were Football Club Chairman Jack Payne; Football Committee member for community initiatives Mishi Morath; & another Trust Board member Mel Hughes.

The award was 'The Liberty of the Old Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell' and was bestowed on 'Dulwich Hamlet Football Club Volunteers' after Dulwich Hamlet Supporters' Trust Board member Jack Bagnall proposed everyone who helps at our Club.

The citation in the Order of Proceedings booklet read as follows:

Dulwich Hamlet Football Club is a shining example of southwark citizens actively working together to achieve exceptional results and make this part of London proud.
Volunteers have worked closely together to ensure that the club is a welcoming place for all and is making a positive difference in the lives of fellow citizens. The club focused its efforts in 2015 on continuing to build bridges between cultures and communities, as evidenced by its work to combat homophobia in sport, events to mark International Women's Day and Black History Month, and giving free match tickets to local people who had never been to the club before, as well as to local community groups and schools. Club volunteers have also raised large amounts of money and supplies for the British Heart Foundation, Cooltan Arts, Southwark Foodbank, migrants in Calais, and refugees in Syria. Dulwich Hamlet Volunteers continue to ensure this is an inclusive club that reaches out to the local and global community, demonstrating the power of football to do good and to make a real and lasting difference.
