Looking back at the local press...

Looking back at the local press...

Time, once more, for our round up from the local printed press this week

On Tuesday the midweek edition of the 'South London Press' gave The Hamlet a brief mention in their small non league column:

Dulwich halted by Eastbourne

Dulwich Hamlet suffered their first defeat in nearly four months after losing 2-0 at Eastbourne Town in the Ryman League Division One South on Saturday. Hamlet conceded twice in the first half and have dropped to third in the table, but still have games in hand. They can get back to their winning ways tonight against Walton & Hersham.

Yesterday, the ever dependable weekly 'Southwark News' covered both games:

Unbeaten run finishes for Hamlet

Defeat at Eastbourne on Saturday ended Hamlet's long unbeaten run-since October 30- which has not seen them taste defeat for 20 games.
Two first half headers from striker Evan Archibald were enough to see off Dulwich who were strangely out of sorts for this away day to the coast.
Dulwich missed the influence of Kevin James and were unable to get their short passing game going on an extremely bobbly pitch that made control difficult.
They were undone by two headers from Archibald, the first from a cross from the Eastbourne right and the second on half time after a mistake by usually reliable Peter Adeniyi.
Despite the majority of possession after the break no clear cut chances were created and it was Eastbourne who looked the more threatening on the break.
On Tuesday night against Walton & Hersham Hamlet bounced straight back by recording a routine home win.
Goals on the night came from Daniel Carr, from the penalty spot, Ryan James and a second half effort from Ellis Green. Hamlet still have three games in hand on leaders Maidstone in the Ryman League South table but are five points behind the Kent side after the league leaders won on Tuesday night, beating Whitstable Town 2-0.
Third placed Faversham Town, who have played a game more than Maidstone, slipped up on the same evening after drawing 1-1 with Ramsgate at home.

The defeat at Eastbourne hasn't left manager Gavin Rose too down, as this piece, also from the 'Southwark News' tells us:

Rose expects no hangover after loss

Hamlet boss Gavin Rose doesn't expect his side to suffer any hangovers after their long unbeaten run came to an end at the weekend.
A 20 game unbeaten streak ended at Eastbourne but the run has put Hamlet in prime position for automatic promotion, despite the loss, and Rose thinks his side have what it takes to put it behind them.
He told the News: "The run inevitably had to come to an end at some point but I think this team are honest enough with themselves, something I like, to know we just did not perform on Saturday. They are that honest when they don't play well and win so I have no worries about the team. I am experienced enough to know there will be lots of twist and turns on the run in to the end of the season. We now just move on to the next game and I know that this group of players will be fine."
Dulwich were without two of most influential midfielders on Saturday, with veteran Kevin James sitting out the entire game with an ankle knock, and teenager Xavier Vidal missing the majority of the contest having just returned from a trial at Championship side Bolton Wanderers.
Rose added: "The boys have worked really hard for the majority of the season and the unbeaten run has been excellent. But it had to come to an end at some point."
The Hamlet gaffer told the News that along with James, right back Kershaney Samuels is also sufering from a twisted ankle.
Both are expected to be ready for selection for the weekend trip to Ramsgate. Josh Turner is also expected to have a run out in the reserves this week as he seeks to force his way back into the first team squad.
But Rose is hoping to add new blood to his side. He said: "We maybe need a body or two to come in and we would like that to happen in the run in, but of course it will have to be the right player at the right price considering the financial restraints we operate under."

And so to the coverage in the weekend edition of the 'South London Press', published earleir today:

No need for Dulwich panic after first defeat in 20

LET'S BOUNCE BACK

Dulwich Hamlet boss Gavin Rose has insisted there is no need to panic after his side were beaten for the first time since October last Saturday. Hamlet lost 2-0 at Eastbourne Town but bounced straight back to winning ways on Tuesday, beating Walton & Hersham 3-0. Rose feels that Tuesday's display shows the character of his side in not letting the defeat affect them and has challenged them to go on another run between now and the end of the season. He said: "When you are on a run and then finally lose, it can have a negative effect but for us, it meant the pressure was off in terms of the lads seeing the next game as just another one to win rather than worrying about keeping the run going. The lads have a real winning mentality after such a good run so naturally they were disappointed with the result aginst eastbourne but I made it clear to them that they had done really well and they are only human. A loss was bound to come at some point. Sometimes it can be difficult mentally when when all you are thinking about is keeping the run going. Luckily the defeat has come at a stage where we have plenty of time to put it right and put together another run. I was pleased with the display against Walton & Hersham because we didn't let the previous result affect us. We atteacked with lots of pace and movement against a tough team- I am pleased with the character the boys showed."
Rose believes the defeat could have a positive effect in allowing the team to refocus ahead of the business end of the season. "It's not so much about the form guide now-it's about the results,"he sais. "There will be lots of twists and turns to come. We've had a tough run but it's going to get even tougher. March will be the deciding month. We have a lot of games and a small squad. The lads have been resting this week to be fresh for the weekend. A lot of our training sessions will be about recuperating and organisation because the match practice will come from the busy schedule. It could work in our favour because if we can put another run together then we will get into our stride with so many games coming thick and fast."
Dulwich travel to Ramsgate this weekend. The hosts are locked in a battle to reach the play-offs and Rose believes that having something to aim for will make them tough opposition. "They play on a big pitch and are a very competitive team who will make it difficult for us to play through them," he said. "They are always around the play-offs and they will be really up for it. If we come away with the points, I will be delighted-regardless of the performance."
Defender Josh Turner may be available tomorrow-assuming he came through Wednesday's reserve game unscathed- having injured his ankle in the 1-0 win against Wealdstone in the Isthmian League Cup in January. Frankie Sawyer is also expected back from his loan spell with Kent Hurlimann League side VCD Athletic some time in the next couple of weeks. "Frankie has started one game and made a couple of substitute appearances but he has got a couple of goals,Rose said. "He has had valuable match practice and has done a lot of training so we hope he is match fit now and it will be like having a new player back in a week or two. Saturday could be hislast game for them. They want to extend the loan but we have a deadline we want to stick to and we will need as many of our players as possible for the run-in."
