Margate 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Margate 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich overturned a half time deficit to progress to the next round of the F.A.Cup

A header from Ellis Green and a thumping shot from Ethan Pinnock secured The Hamlet a place in Monday's 3rd Qualifying Round draw.

Dulwich had to come from behind to reach the next round of The FA Cup having gone behind right on the stroke of half time to a soft penalty. They were unlucky to be behind at this stage as they were the better side in a first half that contained few clear chances for either side.

The Hamlet side showed just 2 changes from Tuesday's win over the same opponents; Ethan Pinnock came into midfield in place of Xavier Vidal and Jerome Walker replaced Abdul Mansaray.

It was Dulwich who had the better early chances and Jerome Walker was seeing plenty of the ball . The first chance arrived as good work down the left saw Ian Daly unable to keep his shot down as it fell to him at the far post with the goal gaping. The next clear chance came as Jerome Walker wriggled past his marker in the box but his shot was parried by Holloway in the Margate goal. The keeper then proceeded to block the follow up from Lewis Gonsalves.

The next clear cut chance saw Walker cut in from the right and almost catch everybody out by shooting with his weaker left foot. However, his shot was parried for a corner via the post by Holloway.

Whilst the game flowed from end to end it was Dulwich who were getting the upper hand and so it came as a shock to the large and vociferous away following when Margate were awarded what looked a soft penalty on the stroke of half time. Kevin James was deemed guilty of tugging the shirt of a forward and Charles Ademeno put the ball down the middle while Phil Wilson went to his right.

Following the goal, Margate could easily have been reduced to ten men before half time as Paul Vines, already booked for dissent, was guilty of a late challenge. Whilst he received a final warning from the referee instead, he did not appear for the second half.

After half time Margate came close to doubling their lead as Phil Walsh, the half time substitute for Paul Vines, hit a 25 yard shot that thumped against the outside of the post.

However, it was Dulwich who drew level on 51 minutes as good play on the right saw Ian Daly deliver a cross that was directed perfectly into the path of Ellis Green, coming in from the left, and he made no mistake as he planted his header into the net.

Now Dulwich had their tails up and pushed forward with great purpose; and by just past the hour they were rewarded with the lead.

A corner from Erhun Oztumer was cleared to the edge of the box where Ellis Green touched the ball to one side where Ethan Pinnock was waiting. His first touch controlled the ball and moved it to his left from where, despite stretching, he let fly with an unstoppable left foot shot that left Holloway with no chance.

Margate pushed forward, prompted by the dangerous Bodkin who was now probing from the centre of the field. The pressure did force free kicks around the edge of the box but the defence, and the excellent Phil Wilson behind them, repelled everything thrown at them. There were also a number of long throws into the box but these came to nothing.

Adeyinka Cole, who had replaced Jerome Walker, created a further chance as his run into the box and cut back was fired just over by Erhun Oztumer.

As the clock was run down, Cole embarked on a run through the middle that was ended by a trip some 6 yards outside the box. Not content with the trip, the Margate player concerned, which appeared to be Avery, then clearly stamped on Cole.

However, after consultation with his assistant, the referee decided that the perpetrator had in fact been substitute George Whitelock who was shocked to be the player that received his marching orders.

Save for another couple of long throws, the Dulwich rearguard comfortably saw out the injury time period to gain a well-deserved win.
