It has certainly been an up and down month for Hakan Hayrettin's side, having taken four points from their opening two games, including a resounding 4-1 victory over Canvey Island. However, three successive losses mean we end our first month back in the Isthmian League in 16th place.
Jack Ruddy has played every minute in goal this month for the Hamlet, and despite conceding 13 times, it has not been due to his efforts. Jack performed heroics in the opening day draw at Hashtag United, making save after save to repel the Tags, only beaten by an own goal and a heavy deflection. He has also saved two of the three penalties he faced during August.
Luke Wanadio has often been the bright spark in our attack during the month. He began his third spell at the club by netting a superb double on the road at Hashtag, and has followed that up with playing a role in creating goals against Hastings and Horsham. In the latter game, his direct approach caused the home defence problems throughout the afternoon.
Richard Pingling began the month on the bench, but injury to Elliott Romain thrust him into the starting line-up for the visit of Canvey Island. He would mark the occasion with a quality goal, confidently finishing off a devastating counter-attack by showing his pace and composure, and also assisted the second goal in that night. Has shown a willingness to fill in defensively too.
Danny Mills has once again proven his credentials up top, scoring a trademark header against Hastings before netting a delicate clip in the defeat to Chatham on Bank Holiday Monday. He also leads the assists chart, creating goals against Hashtag, Canvey Island and Horsham, whilst his presence caused the handball from a Horsham defender to earn us the penalty in that game.
