More from the Chairman

Football Committee Chair LIAM HICKEY spoke to the fans again in last night's programme. This is what he had to say

FROM THE BOARDROOM V WINGATE & FINCHLEY
Good evening everybody and welcome to all our visitors from Wingate & Finchley, a club that seem to be able to consistently punch above their weight.
We are coming off the back of two defeats in both of which we have been well set with less than 15 minutes remaining, created the better chances and yet lapses have meant we have left with nothing. It’s clear we miss Reise Allassani when he is not available, but we are also missing Gavin Tomlin & Dumebi Dumaka. I don’t think any team bar one in this league could easily overcome such absences.

I would like to thank everybody who came out in foul weather conditions on Saturday to support the team and help in our survival fight by generating another large attendance. I am sorry so many of you were queuing for a long time to get in but the stadium operations are currently outside the club’s control and dictated by the stadium owners. We, as a committee, are consistently made aware that we are just tenants with no operational influence.

Following my article on Saturday, I am very happy to confirm that the committee’s relationship with our Supporters’ Trust remains a very positive one, with regular dialogue. However, The Trust are unable to support in the day to day operations of the club in its current structure as they cannot be seen to be acting outside their legal structure. It is for this reason that I have requested that new Directors are added to the company because all of us have been running the risk of acting illegally in controlling operations to date.
I know that the Supporters’ Trust will shortly be polling their members to see whether there is support for providing direct funding to the club in these difficult times. I fully understand that decisions about putting their funds into the club are difficult ones because nobody can give any guarantees that the current situation can be speedily resolved.
Let nobody mistake any funds being put in as an investment, I cannot offer any guarantee that those funds will ever be returned and, because of the control that Meadow Residential presently exert through their share option, I cannot offer equity in return for any funds.

However, I do know there are a number of discussions on-going and believe there is a deal that will see the club thrive and the developers will also get some of what they also desire. What we have to do is stay in the game long enough for it to happen.

Once again, thank you to everybody for your support and let’s hope that our club can start to move forwards shortly and grow on the great work we have all done over the last few years.

Liam
