Not so much 'What The Papers Said'...

Not so much 'What The Papers Said'...

More a case of- what one of them reported....

It’s a quiet time of year for the local press, during the end-of-year holiday period. The ‘Southwark News’ are in ‘hibernation’ for a week, whilst the twice weekly ‘South London Press’ are as good as.
There was a copy of the ‘SloP’ on Tuesday, but it was their end-of-year round-up of events throughout the last twelve months, with no real current news coverage in it. I am presuming there’s no weekend edition today, New Years Day, as I’ve just been to the local shops, and there’s no copies of their ususal weekend edition on their shelves.

So we just have the report from five days ago to share with you, from the ‘Non League Paper’.

The day after Boxing Day the ‘Non League Paper’ made wonderful Sunday morning reading, after our total thrashing of Kingstonian, which was the featured Ryman Premier match of the day, also getting a name-check on the front-page, with:

INSIDE:

DULWICH DRIVE ON IN RYMAN

Here’s what the report said inside, splashed across pages 24 & 25:

ASH FIRES HOT HAMLET AS Ks ARE OUTGUNNED

Pacesetting Dulwich turned in an exhilarating performance to overwhelm old rivals Kingstonian in front of a bumper holiday crowd at Champion Hill.
Dulwich appeared inspired by fromer England international Rio Ferdinand, who visited their dressing room before kick-off.
Local boy Ferdinand, born in nearby Denmark Hill, said that the visit got his “juices flowing again.”
And he certainly got Hamlet’s creative juices flowing.
Despite conceding first to the recently prolific Ricky Sappleton, Hamlet won in style.
Danny Waldren, Ryan Moss and Ashley Carew put them in control at the break before Ethan Pinnock and another Moss goal kept them top of the table on goal difference.
Ks opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Aaron Goode made a strong run through the middle and the ball ran to the burly Sappleton who placed his shot wide of Hamlet custodian Phil Wilson.
Ks were only in front for eleven minutes, however. Carew’s free-kick appeared to be covered by Ks keeper Rob Tolfrey but skipper Waldren headed the ball past him.
Hamlet kept up the pressure and came close again before they went in front on the half-hour, former Ks man Moss slamming home from close range after a dogged run into the box by Dean McDonald.
Carew then scored a third goal six minutes before half-time with an exquisite free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards.
Ks’ Dan Bennett threatened moments later but his shot finished the wrong side of the post.
Hamlet added a fourth on 48 minutes when Carew’s free-kick was headed down by a Ks defender and Pinnock hooked the loose ball high into the net.
The busy Tolfrey made a fine save from Carew’s long-range drive. But he had no chance on 71 minutes when Damian Scannel drove into the box on the right and crossed for Moss to knock in goal number five, his own fifth in two games.
A great tackle by Ks captain Alan Inns denied Moss his hat-trick and Tolfrey made a super save, turning a piledriver from Albert Jarrett onto the top of the bar.
In the closing stages, Tolfrey came to his side’s rescue again when he did well to save Pinnock’s speculative effort from inside his own half.
Dulwich supremo Gavin Rose was naturally delighted with his team’s display.
He told The NLP: “Apart from conceding a sloppy goal, we were always in the ascendancy. The boys played some excellent football and we scored some fine goals. I was very pleased with their performance and character.”
By contrast, Ks boss Tommy Williams was disappointed with the result and his team’s display.
He said: “We just didn’t ask any questions of Dulwich and failed to take advantage of opening the scoring.”
