Paper talk!
Here is the round-up from this week in the local press
There was no mention of The Hamlet in Tuesday's midweek edition of the 'South London Press' due to our blank Saturday. So no headline for us, which instead went to our old rivals Tooting & Mitcham United, who are still languishing in Division One Douth, with the bold : 'Terrors play-off ambitions in danger of slipping off the rails'
Yesterday, there was still some coverage in the weekly 'Southwark News' despite no midweek game either. Their feature concentrated in the battle for our number one shirt:
Brown keeping Wilson on his toes
Hamlet number one Phil Wilson will have to keep up his excellent form between the sticks this season as gaffer Gavin Rose believes back up stopper Oshane Brown is matching his standards.
The experienced Wilson has re-established himself as first choice stopper since returning from injury. But Brown caught the eye of many at Champion Hill, including rose, when he stood in for wilson in the early part of the season.
The Hamlet boss told the News: "Phil has seniority but there is nothing to choose between them in terms of performance as we have been really happy with Oshane when he has played for us."
He added: "Phil is a real club man and Oshane is doing what we wanted in that a young goalkeeper is coming through to make a claim for the starting spot. It can only be good that we have two people pushing for a position and it is particularly good to have that with goalkeepers I feel. We are fortunate to be in that position at the club."
Hamlet are in action twice over the Christmas and New Year period, after Saturday's home ficture against witham town, starting with an away day on Saturday December 27 against Enfield Town.
They then kick off 2015 with a home fixture against old foes Leatherhead who travel to Champion Hill on New Year's Day in a contest that gets underway at 3pm.
And, lastly, in todays weekend copy of the 'South London Press' the easing of one of our injury woes during our recent spell without a game was the story:
Dixon finds fitness after 10-day break
Dulwich Hamlet midfielder Jack Dixon has won his battle for fitness and will be available to face Witham Town tomorrow in the Ryman League Premier Division.
Dixon picked up an ankle injury in a 50-50 challenge in the South Londoners' 2-0 win against Tonbridge Angels nine days ago.
But the Champion Hill outfit have not played since then, and the extended break came at a good time for Dixon., who joined from Lewes a few weeks ago.
Kershaney Samuels, who was stretchered off in the win over Peacehaven & Telscombe nearly a fortnight ago with severe bruising to his ankle, is still a couple of weeks away from returning to action.
Ashley Carew is also suspended for tomorrow's fixture, and Dulwich boss Gavin Rose hinted earlier this week that he might try and bring in a short-term replacement.
Rose's side are eight games unbeaten in the league and are up to third, but the gap between themselves and the top two (Maidstone and Margate) means he is focused on going one better than last season and securing a play-off spot.
"We had a really good start last year off the back of promotion but perhaps we peaked a bit too early and didn't have a strong enough squad to sustain what we began," Rose said. "We need to learn from that. We have a new group of players who are hungry and plenty are experienced with the type of situation we are in."
Witham are 19th in the table and just two points above the relegation zone.
