Preview: Bath City (A) 02/04/22

The Hamlet hit the road again as they take on Bath City this weekend in a crunch tie at both ends of the table.

It took a late Danny Green penalty to break Hamlet hearts last time out, as Gavin Rose's men had to settle for a point on their previous outing. Despite the Beach Boys taking the initiative, a quick reply from loanee Taofiq Olomowewe was then followed up by a composed Danny Mills strike to look like it had given the Hamlet a much needed three points. However a controversial penalty left Dulwich devastated, and now winless in five, the playoff race gets ever tighter with Rose's side desperately clinging on to the final spot. With 46 points accumulated so far, they now lie 8 points off of 6th, and it is now starting to become a fight for just one playoff position with as many as six teams all within half a dozen points of one another, it's sure to be an eventful run in as just seven Hamlet fixtures remain until the end of the season.

Awaiting the Hamlet this weekend is Somerset side, Bath City, with Dulwich making the long trip west to Twerton Park. The Romans have suffered a rather tough 2022 just like their South London opponents, winning just three times since the turn of the year -one less than the Hamlet. Wins over Hemel Hempstead, Eastbourne, and Chippenham their only victories this calendar year. That form has seen them dragged into a relegation battle as they perilously sit just three points above the drop zone; and with a very precarious run-in ahead of them, Saturdays match is pivotal for both teams. Still awaiting Bath after Dulwich are Havant, Hungerford and a very tasty relegation 'six-pointer' against Billericay.

In the reverse fixture back in November, it was a comfortable afternoon for the Hamlet men as they ran out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Quade Taylor, Jordan Green, and Darren McQueen. The last trip to Twerton Park also proved profitable as Dulwich took home the three points in an eventual 4-1 rout behind closed doors. Although the hosts took the lead via a Donovan Wilson goal, Michael Timlin cancelled that out before halftime and then the hosts went on to run riot with strikes from Gio McGregor, Deon Moore, and Danny Mills sealing the victory. However, the Hamlet's recent away record is a lot to be desired with just two wins on their travels since the early stages of the campaign when they had gone unbeaten in their first six away matches, winning five of them. Three points is a must if the Hamlet want to keep their noses in front in the playoff race, especially with Havant and Hungerford still having a game in hand, Saturday's fixture could prove to be season defining.
