PREVIEW: BILLERICAY TOWN (H) 09/10/21
The Hamlet will hope to extend their unbeaten league run with three points from struggling Billericay Town at Champion Hill on Saturday (3pm KO).
Gavin Rose’s men will be looking to press on in this Vanarama National League South game after a tricky tie mid-week in the London Senior Cup. A nice goal by Chike Kandi levelled the scores after Croydon Athletic had taken the lead and a poorly taken penalty deep in the second half meant the game finished all square. An eventual 3-1 on penalties saw Dulwich through to the next round.
While Hamlet have struggled somewhat in cup games this season, the League form is impressive, seeing the team unbeaten since the balmy days of August. Dulwich’s one defeat in the league so far was against top dogs Dartford, and a positive string of other results sees Hamlet sitting proud in 5th with 11 points from 6 games.
Billericay, by contrast, are propping up the table, sitting bottom having only picked up 1 point from their 6 matches. The Blues poor run has seen them part company with manager Kevin Watson, and his assistant Mark Hughes. Billericay will be managed on Saturday by Danny Brown the U23 coach who has stepped in previously when the team were manager-less.
Although Billericay’s form is nothing to write home about, they do have proven goal scorers and Hamlet old boy, Michael Chambers has made the score sheet twice this season. The Blues were promoted with Hamlet in 2018 as champions of the Isthmian Premier League, and will be hoping for a turn round in form as the season progresses.
Last time out in the league saw Billericay lose narrowly 3-2 to fellow strugglers Hemel Hempstead. Dulwich, meanwhile, pulled of a barnstorming win against at Chelmsford Town with goals for Quade Taylor and Gio McGregor in the first half and impressive keeping from Charlie Grainger in the second.
In last year’s abandoned season, the two sides met once at Billericay when the Blues ran out 2-0 winners, with that man Michael Chambers again on the
scoresheet. Gavin Rose’s men will be doing all they can to ensure Saturday’s game doesn’t see a return to previous seasons’ form by the visitors.
