PREVIEW: Chelmsford City (A) 25/09/21

PREVIEW: Chelmsford City (A) 25/09/21

The Hamlet will look to put last weekend’s FA Cup disappointment behind them when they make the trip to Chelmsford City this Saturday (3pm KO).

It’s a return to Vanarama National League South action for Gavin Rose’s men, as Dulwich try and bounce back after their shock 1-0 defeat to Bedfont Sports at Champion Hill last Saturday in the Emirates FA Cup. Joe Jackson’s strike just past the half hour mark was the only goal of the game, with The Hamlet failing to breach a resilient Bedfont backline.

Although there will be no FA Cup adventure this season, the League journey resumes, and with Dulwich sat one place outside the playoffs, there is still reasons for optimism. Dulwich have only tasted defeat once in the league so far and that was against high-flying Dartford, with a couple of draws and a couple of wins completing their 8-point haul after 5 matches played.

Saturday’s opponents lay in 11th, with The Clarets also totalling 8 points but having played a game more. Unlike Dulwich, an FA Cup run is still on the cards for Robbie Simpson’s side after their triumph over Little Oakley at the Melbourne Stadium. Enfield Town await The Clarets in the next round following their 2-1 victory over Hadley in a replay.

Last time out in the league saw wins for both sides, as Dulwich eventually overcame Hungerford Town in an action-packed game which included two missed pens for The Hamlet and The Crusaders also going down to 10 late on. Chelmsford also endured a frantic encounter, whereby they managed to secure a 3-2 away victory at Chippenham Town.

In last year’s abandoned season, the two sides did manage to meet when Chelmsford made the trip to Champion Hill. However, unlike the two club’s most recent league outings, this match was quite the opposite with a goalless draw ensuing. Dulwich’s two trips to The Melbourne Stadium both delivered a point, with Christian Smith’s strike enough for a 1-1 draw on their latest visit.
