Preview: Chelmsford City (H) 05/02/22

The Hamlet hope to put Hungerford disappointment behind them this Saturday when they welcome Chelmsford to Champion Hill.

Despite victories on all previous visits to Bulpit Lane, the Hamlet failed to come away with anything last Saturday on what turned out to be a disappointing outing for Gavin Rose's men away at Hungerford. Saturday's visit of Chelmsford City to Champion Hill marks the possibility of swiftly putting that poor performance behind them. Rose's men will be hoping for a quicker start than what they made last time out with the Crusader's taking the lead inside the first five minutes via Matt Berry-Hargreaves; and although recent recruit Ronnie Vint did manage to pull a goal back just after half-time, that was as good as it got for the visitors. Just two minutes later the hosts retook the initiative and never looked back as Hungerford leapfrogged their opponents in the table.

Dulwich have slipped out of the play-offs and currently lie in 9th but remain within just a singular point of the top seven. This weekend's opponents at the Hill have slowed down in recent weeks after they crossed into the new year with a stretch of three wins in a row. Since a 1-0 win at home to Bath, the Clarets have drawn three and lost the other out of their last four fixtures which leaves them sat 17th in the standings. A rather uneventful 0-0 stalemate with play-off hopefuls followed a 2-1 away loss at recent Hamlet conquerors Hungerford, despite the Clarets taking the lead thanks to Zak Bradshaw. Saturday's fixture will see Chelmsford take on yet another play-off side in what has been a really tough schedule, with Robbie Simpson's side running out against side's lying in 10th up through 7th in consecutive matches.

The Hamlet have faced up against the Clarets once already this season back in September when they visited the Melbourne Stadium. It was a great afternoon for the Dulwich in the reverse fixture as quick-fire early goals from Quade Taylor and Gio McGregor sealed a routine three points. The Clarets last visit to the Hill provided a thrilling 5-3 victory for the Hamlet two years ago, which managed to include a Danny Mills hat trick and a missed penalty for the hosts. Only a second three points in five games could help the Hamlet climb back into the playoffs, but back-to-back defeats might see Rose's side fall further behind in the play-off race.
