Quiz night a great success!
There was an amazing turnout on Friday night in the Clubhouse for the Harry Ottaway benefit quiz
A packed Champion Hill bar was the scene for a Quiz Night organised by Dulwich Hamlet supporters for our injured centre-forward Harry Ottaway, who is self employed, and been unable to work since he broke his leg at home to Carshalton Athletic back in August.
The numbers taking part exceeded all expectations, with no less than fourteen teams taking part, and over a thousand pounds has been raised. With one or two small donations still coming in from those who were unable to be there, we shall announce the final total by next weekend.
The total was boosted by a three figure donation from the entire Dulwich Hamlet First team squad, who couldn't have a late night out, as they were preparing for the Enfield town match the next day. Their gesture was much appreciated, proving how united the Club is, with fans, players & officials all pulling together.
As well as the entry fee for each team, which was boosted by some donations on top of the suggested minimum of £10 per team, there was a big raffle, with all prizes donated (including a bottle of fine wine by Tessa Jowell, Member of Parliament for Dulwich & West Norwood. There was also an auction of a football signed by our entire First Team squad.
The quiz was won by 'To Be Sure', made up of Hamlet fans Adrian & Matt Hammond; Mark Panton; Mick O'Shaughnessy & Steve Rickerby. They received beer tokens for a gallon of beer, kindly donated by Yasmin, our bar manager; and a trophy, kindly donated by
Supreme Engraving & Awards UK. It was fitting that this team came top of the pile, as they also topped the bids for the signed football, not only paying out £75 for the prvilege, but they then promptly gave it away to the "12th Man" campaign for them to use as a future prize in their fundraising!
Many thanks to everyone who helped out in making the night a success, too many to mention, but you know who you are! And also a thank you, of course, to everyone who made the effort to come along and take part, to ensure it was such a great success.
Harry Ottaway closed the night by presenting the prizes to the winners and then drawing the raffle, before taking centre stage to humbly than keveryone, from the heart, for supporting him.
