REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet 0 - 1 Hendon | FA Trophy
Strizovic makes two incredible penalty saves at Champion Hill as Hendon cause cup upset to knock Dulwich Hamlet out of the FA Trophy.
Dulwich came into Saturday’s cup tie off the back of two bad results at home to Brentwood Town then away to Cray Wanderers in the week and were hoping to bounce back against weaker opposition.
Hendon, on top form in the Isthmian South Central, were looking for revenge against the South London side who relegated them back in April.
It was a nightmare start for Dulwich, going a goal down within 5 minutes as Rohdell Gordon rolled it to Keagan Cole who put the ball into the bottom left from an indirect free kick.
In search of a leveller, the hosts came close twice in quick succession when both Anthony Jeffrey and Sol Baugh were denied by Greens keeper Joshua Strizovic.
Hamlet upped their intensity after the break with better link up play particularly down the left with full-back Tom Chambers joining the front line.
After a period of constant pressure from the Pink and Blues in the second half, Anthony Cook was brought down in the penalty area giving Dulwich a golden opportunity to equalise.
But it was squandered by Luke Wanadio in his first home game back from suspension as his shot was brilliantly saved by Strizovic.
With less than 20 to go Strizovic made another fantastic save to deny Baugh’s shot which was heading for the top left corner.
And in a dramatic injury time finish, Strizovic was forced to make a second incredible penalty save, denying Baugh this time from the spot and Hendon progress in the FA Trophy.
While out of another cup, Dulwich are well in contention for a play-off spot at this early stage of the campaign.
Hamlet face Cray Wanderers once again next weekend, this time at Champion Hill with a positive result needed after a week of losses.
