Sol Baugh wonder-strike fires Hamlet to third straight win in all competitions
A crowd of 2,027 packed inside Champion Hill watched as Baugh fired a shot into the top left corner from the edge of the area to ensure the Hamlet claimed all 3 points against Brentwood Town in the Isthmian Premier Division.
The Hamlet’s early spell of pressure was rewarded after 36 minutes when David Smith and Gaspar Mico combined intricately on the right hand side.
Smith played a lovely give and go with the winger and once he got it back on the edge of the box he fired emphatically past Brentwood goalkeeper Aiden Prall.
Smith’s effort meant Hamlet took a 1-0 lead into the interval.
Just as the home side were under the impression that they were cruising toward all three points, Blues skipper Harry Gibbs equalised with a sensational effort from a free kick that Hudson Sands could only paw into the net, such was the power behind it.
A little over five minutes later, Baugh took the ball from one flank to the other before firing an early goal of the season contender into the top left corner.
Hamlet could have had a third late on when a massive scramble inside the Brentwood area ended with a Danny Mills shot cleared off the line.
Nevertheless, Baugh’s strike was enough to claim victory for Hamlet and move us up to 5thplace in the table.
