REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Horsham

Report of our 1-1 draw with Horsham

Dulwich Hamlet earned themselves a point in a tight 1-1 draw against Horsham at Champion
Hill on Saturday, missing the chance to leapfrog them in the table.

Luke Wanadio secured the point for the home side just before half time with a calm finish
across the goalkeeper just moments after Horsham had taken the lead at the other end.

Dulwich came into this match looking to continue their seven game unbeaten run at home in
the league after a good 2-1 victory over Carshalton last time around, facing a Horsham side
on the back of defeat on the road to Bognor Regis.

The first half started with Horsham having the better of the chances and calling Constable
into action many times within the first 25 minutes of play.

The goalkeeper showed his worth though with some good saves, even catching a knock for
a brave dive at an attackers feet to claim the ball.

This was to be the story of the first half though, with lots of breaks in play and multiple injury
stoppages.

With a couple of minutes to go to half time, the away side finally took one of their chances
when Hester-Cook headed in a nicely taken corner to give his side the lead.

The lead did not last long though, with Hamlet working the ball straight into the opposition
box from the centre where Wanadio was waiting to pounce, calmly stroking the ball into the
far corner to send the rabble into raptures.

The half came to an exciting conclusion when Danny Mills soon after sent the ball across the
box and it somehow stayed out the net, but Hakan still knew his side had not been
themselves for the first 45.

Speaking on the first half he said: “If I’m totally honest, it wasn’t the usual Dulwich Hamlet
performance in the first half - it lacked the high energy.”

The manager's half time message clearly changed the course of the game though, as
Hamlet came out with a newfound desire and showed the dominant force they can be.

Krasniqi was unfortunately lost to injury midway through the half and was replaced by Alfie
Allen.
Anthony Jeffrey and Adrian Clifton both came on too and began to make a difference, when
the two combined before setting Wanadio through to come close to his second of the match.

The last 20 minutes of the match was Hamlet's best spell of the game and in stoppage time
the ball went flying across the box and no one could get a touch on it to claim the three
points.

The point leaves the boys in Pink and Blue 10th in the table, still one spot behind their
visitors Horsham.

R’avan Constable was one of the standouts on the day keeping his side in it during the first
half by making multiple saves and clawing some out that seemed nearly impossible to stop.

After the game Hakan was pleased with how his side reacted in the second half, stating:
“The resilience again, that we kept on going to the death.

“The game ended in their half and we were pushing to win.

“The application, the desire, the determination of the lads to keep driving was good.

We’ve only lost one in 13 now and it’s making those draws into wins which is important.”

The next game at Champion Hill will be on the 6th January when the Hamlet welcome
Hashtag United as their first home opponents of the new year.
