REPORT | Wingate & Finchley 1 - 0 Dulwich Hamlet | 22/08/26
The Hamlet suffered their 2nd defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon against Wingate & Finchley in North London.
Despite a positive opening 45 minutes it wasn't the result that Mark Dacey and his side wanted as they left North London empty handed.
It took 17 minutes for the game to breath into life as Hamlet front man David Smith cut inside and unleashed a deadly strike only for Wingate goalkeeper and former Hamlet fan favourite Charlie Grainger to get down and tip it onto the posst.
Tom Chambers would almost put the South Londoners ahead minutes later but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked and cleared away for a corner.
With the Hamlet clicking into gear it would be captain Nyren Clunis that would almost put his side ahead as Gaspar Mico played the ball through to him but his shot was saved well by Grainger in the Wingate goal.
The hosts would have their only major chance of the first half as they sent a free-kick miles over the bar.
Toby Bull was pulled into action for the first time as a quick Wingate & Finchley counter attack saw them with a chance to shoot but only to find Bull get down to save it.
10 minutes later though and the hosts would find the breakthrough. A cross evaded the heads of Tom and Michael Chambers and Anointed Chukwu was there to head past Bull and fire the them ahead.
The Hamlet failed to get back into the game despite Samir Carruthers going close with an audacious volley in the 90th minute.
It means it's back to back away defeats for the Hamlet as they head in to a busy Bank Holiday weekend when Three Bridges come to Champion Hill and a visit to Leatherhead on Bank Holiday Monday.
