RESPECT TO BE OBSERVED FOR JIMMY HILL AT CORINTHIAN-CASUALS THIS EVENING
Dulwich Hamlet have been informed by Corinthian-Casuals that a minute’s applause will be observed before kick-off at tonight’s London Senior Cup game
Dulwich Hamlet would like to ask fans attending tonight’s game at King George’s Field to join in with our hosts in paying their respects to Jimmy Hill, who passed away this weekend after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Though he may have evoked differing emotions in many in the game, there is no doubting the immense influence that Jimmy Hill had on the game of football in England as part of an extraordinary career in the game as player, manager and administrator as well as a pioneer of football broadcasting including two decades as a leading pundit on BBC’s ‘Match of the Day’. He also proved a tireless fundraiser for various charities.
From his days as chairman of the Professional Footballers Association when Jimmy led the campaign to scrap the £20 a week minimum wage to his modernisation of the sport through improved facilities at grounds and marketing of the football experience, Hill was an innovator who changed the game irrevocably.
At Corinthian-Casuals, though, Jimmy Hill will much more be remembered as a hard working President where he held that position from 1996, ensuring that the ideals of amateurism that the club’s forefathers had established were adhered to strictly. On occasions he was known to enter the team dressing room to let his feelings be known should the Corinthian spirits be lacking from the players’ conduct on the field.
All of us at Dulwich Hamlet would like to pass on our condolences to Jimmy’s family, friends both inside football and out, and every at Corinthian-Casuals who are feeling the loss of true of the game at this emotional time.
A tribute to Jimmy, penned by Corinthian-Casuals Vice President David Harrison, can be read here.
