Stewarding changes

Stewarding changes

Among many recent upgrades around the ground new matchday stewards have been introduced

We are aware that this has concerned a some of our loyal fans, so we would like to both reassure them that these changes had to be made, and that it was no slight on the previous stewarding team, who so ably helped the Club over the last few seasons.

Dulwich Hamlet Football Club General Manager Chris Taylor explained:

"The recent decision to replace a number of the match day stewards at the club is a regrettable, yet ultimately necessary action, due to the hugely increased support and footfall at Champion Hill. This has created an ever-growing need for trained personnel to  be present, in order to manage any potential risk to supporters and visitors.  Whilst it is the last wish of the club to upset any of the long-standing stewards or supporters, on this occasion it was necessary to take decisive action for the safety of those in the ground. A number of attempts had been made by the club to contact the stewards required at the game well in advance, yet all failed on telephone and email. In short – we couldn’t take the risk and had to ensure that the game was properly and professionally stewarded.  The club has reached out to all of the steward team to thank them for their service, and has hopefully now fully explained the nature of the decision. In addition, we have issued all stewards a complimentary season ticket. We would once again like to apologise for any distress caused over the handling of this important issue. It is the club’s strongest wish that all of the team, past and present, understand that they will always be welcome at Champion Hill and hope that it will still be regarded by those visiting as their home."

Football Club Chairman Liam Hickey added: "As well as the free season ticket offer to them all we are also welcoming them into the Boardroom on Saturday as guests of the Football Committee, as another way of offering our appreciation for the work they have put in. It is our way of thanking them for for their services, and we hope they can now relax at games and simply enjoy the football like the rest of our fans."
