The Hornets angle from Saturday

The Hornets angle from Saturday

Having been allowed into the ground after cheekily appliying for a 'press pass' it was good to see a nice report from the game on their website

It was published on their Hornets Review site & read as follows:

Dulwich Hamlet 4 HORSHAM 0
Saturday 8th December 2012
Ryman League Division One South
Goalscorers:
DULWICH HAMLET: Hunter OG (15) Carr (17,82,85)
HORSHAM:

"Ten man Horsham were ruthlessly swept aside by a Dulwich side who strengthened their grip on top spot with a four goal display in front of Champion Hill's second biggest crowd of the season.

Tormentor-in-chief was Daniel Carr, who helped himself to a hat-trick, but it was an unhappy afternoon for Hornets' 'keeper Michael Hunter who was credited with an own goal to get the scoring underway and was at fault for Carr's first, less than two minutes later. Yet, at 2-0 down, in-form Horsham might still have fancied their chances of getting back into the game after adopting a more adventurous formation after the break but the dismissal of Ryan Woodford, twenty minutes from time, left them with a mountain to climb and Carr took full advantage with two more clinical finishes to take his tally to an impressive twelve goals in nine games for the South-East Londoners.

A leg infection ruled Charlie Farmer out of the match, his place taken by Tom Gilbert, otherwise the starting XI was unchanged from that which proved too strong for Three Bridges last week while the bench carried an attacking look with a return to action for Wayne Clarke, Eddie Koboah and Jamie Ampleford.

Although falling just short of 'brass monkey' weather, referee Nolan Wilde was forced to replace a couple of balls inside the first four minutes with Carr taking an instant liking to their replacement and sending a speculative effort not far away from Hunter's goal. Nyren Clunis then fired wide after Erhun Oztumer's reverse pass had opened up the Hornets' defence and Ellis Green maintained the hosts' positive start when he shot - rather wastefully - past the near post.

The opening goal wasn't long in coming when Kevin James' free-kick was deflected behind and, from his resulting corner, Hunter palmed the ball into his own net under pressure from Dulwich skipper Peter Adeniyi. Hunter fared better when tipping Ryan James' cross over the 'bar, almost immediately, but the usually assured goalkeeper was at fault again when he failed to deal with the corner to leave Carr with a simple header to complete a miserable couple of minutes for Simon Colbran's side.Even the usually deadly Billy Medlock was off-colour, spooning a free-kick high and wide in what represented Horsham's first attempt on goal, midway through the half.

The Hornets showed a flicker of attacking threat, creating two half chances for Medlock that were both put wide, but Hamlet almost made it 3-0 when Clunis sidestepped Billy Joe-King and drilled a superb ball across the face of goal where it needed just a touch to beat Hunter. Ryan Marriott limped off, ten minutes before the break, and was replaced by Koboah but he barely got a touch during the remainder of the half as the visitors remained second best. Hunter had to be alert to thwart Luke Hickie after the centre-half had been sent clear by the busy Oztumer, and Gary Charman needed all his experience to clear the danger when Carr went round Hunter after another excellent pass had dissected the Hornets defence.

King had the visitors' final chance of the half when a rare period of pressure ended with home stopper Phil Wilson gathering the former Chelsea trainee's shot at the second attempt.

H/T Dulwich Hamlet 2 Horsham 0

King was pushed into the midfield as Horsham abandoned their 5-3-2 formation in favour of 4-4-2 after the interval but Dulwich twice threatened in the opening moments, first when Clunis' low shot was fielded by Hunter and then only a superbly timed cover tackle by Charman prevented Carr from converting another wonderful pass by Oztumer.

Harris made the most of some space in the midfield to pick out Medlock but last week's hat-trick hero elected to shooting early, sending the ball dipping just over the crossbar. But this was a rare sortie on the home goal and the contest quickly reverted to it's earlier pattern when Oztumer held the ball up for Kevin James to hit a first time shot straight at Hunter.

Glen Woodburn and Dulwich's Carr were booked in a sixty second spell but the main talking point came five minutes later when Woodford went in hard on Oztumer and was shown a straight red by Mr Wilde. Although difficult to validate the referee's decision from the stands, the reaction of Adeniyi and several of his team-mates suggested they weren't happy with the midfielder's challenge and players from both sides jostled as Mr Wilde produced his red card.

Horsham responded by replacing King with Wayne Clarke, while the hosts signalled their intentions by sending on striker Xavier Vidal for full-back Kershaney Samuels, and it was Dulwich who continued to dominate with Green probably regretting his decision to shoot from a tight angle despite Carr being better placed. Hunter had been on the receiving end of some predictable, if good-natured, ribbing from the home fans following his earlier troubles but they were generous with their applause when he kept out a fierce drive from Vidal after trickery by Green had seen him get the better of James Brockhurst.

Horsham gamely tried to fashion a response but Medlock shot wildly off target and Gilbert's shot was comfortably held by Wilson from Koboah's cross. At the other end, Woodburn blocked Carr's goalbound shot after Clunis' pass had taken Hunter out of the game but the hosts were soon 3-0 up when Carr chased Oztumer's long ball over the top and expertly lobbed Hunter with Charman's acrobatics unable to stop the ball from crossing the line.

Three minutes later the net bulged once more when Dulwich, enjoying their numerical advantage against a tiring opponent, produced a patient build-up that saw Carr complete his hat-trick with a close range tap-in from Hickie's cross. There was no further scoring in the time that remained, although not for the want of trying from the home side. Clunis got the better of Charman, only to slice wide of the goal, Oztumer flashed a shot just over the angle of post and crossbar and the overlapping Ryan James wasted a golden opportunity by firing in to the side netting in the fifth minute of stoppage time."
