The Only Way Is Essex

The Only Way Is Essex

The Hamlet begin their march on the arch,at Romford in a preliminary round tie, looking to head down Wembley Way on Sunday 24th March 2013!

The preliminary round tie, kicking off at 3.00pm, is being played at the Ryman Premier Division ground of Thurrock FC at Ship Lane.

The Boro are currently mid-table in the Ryman League Division One North, having played five games so far, last Saturday they won their first home game, beating Ilford by the only goal of the match, having suffered reverses at Thurrock against Redbridge (1-2) on the opening day; & Wroxham (0-2). In the FA Cup they suffered a Friday night reverse by four goals to one versus Waltham Forest.

On their travels there was a 3-1 loss at Thamesmead Town, who The Hamlet you may recall thrashed 5-0 in a pre-season canter. Their only other away game played thus far was a 0-2 reversal at the Cricklefields Stadium home of Ilford.

Hopefully there will be a good turn out of Hamlet fans, at a venue that is actually not a difficult to get to as it sounds.

Click here for directions form the official Romford website.

A number of Hamlet fans actually like to get a train to Dartford, have a drink there, before sharing a taxi or two over the Dartford Bridge.

But the most practical way for public transport is users is a train to Rainham, NOT Purfleet, as mentioned on the Romford site. It is the nearest to the ground but a horrible 2 miles-plus walk.

www.pitchero.com/clubs/dulwichhamlet/ recommend a train to Rainham (Travelcard Zone 6), which is a half hourly service starting from Fenchurch Street at 05 & 35 mins past the hour. Ordinarily you can pick this route up at West Ham (which is on the Jubilee and District Underground lines) at 14 & 44 minutes past the hour, arriving at Rainham at 27 & 57 mins past, but this stretch of the London Underground network is closed due to engineering works, so simply head for Fenchurch Street. Then it's bus 372 from Rainham station to "Thurrock Hotel, Ship Lane" which is right outside the ground. The bus runs every 20 minutes leaving Rainham at 02, 22 & 42 past the hour, journey time around 15 minutes. For the return journey the bus leaves at 03, 23 & 43, so you should be able to make the 17:03 if you want a sharp exit.

Ship Lane is a fairly long road, there is only one bus stop in it, so make sure you don't miss the stop otherwise you'll end up on the wrong side of the M25 and have to walk back.
