The weekly news round-up...

The weekly news round-up...

Except I'm a bit behind, so it covers the last three weeks!

We begin back in March, with the midweek edition of the 'South London Press', which was the day of our big home match with Maidstone United, just before Easter. I say 'home' match because the SLP had it down as an away game, in their extended non-league coverage, due to the previous weekend being an international one, thus more space:

ROLLING OVER STONES

Dulwich ready for a crunch clash in Kent

Dulwich Hamlet set up a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash against Maidstone United tonight with a comprehensive win at Champion Hill against lowly Whitstable Town.
The Hamlet kept up their impressive home form-13 wins and two draws from 16 Ryman Division One south matches-as an astute second half performance ensured the points stayed in South London. Dulwich have no selection issues heading into their clash with the Stones. Hamlet can move level on points with the hosts if they are victorious in Kent. Boss Gavin Rose said: "It's a massive game-if we win it will be great and they'll feel the same if they come out on top. But I still feel there is a job to be done after this game. There is no doubt it is mentally good to win a match like this. It's about showing the right mental attitude regardless of the result. Maidstone have been at the top of the league all season, they have got experienced players and it's a big club. We're a relatively smaller club but we have been up at the top all season also. It should be a really good game."
The first half against Whitstable brought very little action as both teams struggled to adapt to the wind and snow. A mixture of fine defending and poor attacking saw the sides head into the break scoreless. The hosts played some nice one-touch football at times and the game turned in Dulwich's favour on 55 minutes when Nyren Clunis hit an unstoppable effort from 30 yards which flew into the top right-hand corner. Before that, both teams had failed to settle into any sort of rhythm as the snow swept across the pitch and affected visibility. Dulwich doubled their advantage just three minutes later as in-demand striker Daniel Carr nodded home after a good cross from Ellis Green was turned back across goal by substitute Xavier Vidal. Whitstable changed formation to try and forge a way back into the game. Dulwich goalkeeper Phil Wilson was a spectator for long periods as captain Peter Adeniyi marshalled his defence superbly. Vidal capped the win on 79 minutes as the midfielder poked home from six yards after another jinking run from winger Ellis Green. Whitstable did manage to get the ball into the net in the final minute. Dean Hanshaw was as amazed as the rest of the ground to see his effort ruled out for offside after Hamlet keeper Phil Wilson failed to hold onto Jake Beecroft's stinging shot. Rose said: "We looked more threatening in the second half. Nyren's goal was a really good strike and it opened up the game for us a little more. Whitstable had to come out and that created more space for our attackers to go and capitalise on. We tried to play football in difficult conditions. Obviously it wasn't easy. Whitstable started off quite well and made it difficult for us to break them down. They also broke well on the counter-attack so the first half was especially difficult for us."

Two days later the weekly 'Southwark News' carried reports of both of our previous home games, Whitstable Town & Maidstone United:

Second half treble sees off Whitstable

Second half goals from Nyren Clunis, Daniel Carr and Xavier Vidal completed an ultimately comfortable win for The Hamlet.
With the game taking place in a strong wind and driving snow the first half was generally a non event with both sides struggling to come to terms with the conditions.
However an impressive second half showing saw Dulwich ease to victory. Hamlet took the lead in the 55 minute.
The goal was owrth waiting for as Clunis picked up the ball midwat inside the Whitstable half before advancing and crashing an unstoppable rising drive home from 25 yards.
It took only another three minutes for the lead to be doubled as a cross from the left was half volleyed back into the six yard box where Carr was waiting to gleefully slam home.
That meant Whitstable had to commit to attack and although they pushed on they could get no change from a Dulwich reaguard superbly marshalled by the outstanding Peter adeniyi.
It wasn't a surprise when Dulwich added a third as Vidal won the ball on the edge of the box and fed Ellis Green who crossed for Vidal to fire home the third on 79 minutes.

The main report featured the Maidstone game & the forthcoming Easter derby at arch rivals Tooting & Mitcham United:

Stones draw as Tooting beckon for Hamlet

A late equaliser stopped Hamlet picking up three points on Tuesday evening in their top of the table clash with Maidstone United.
Nyren Clunis put Dulwich ahead after just three minutes and an even and pulsating contest looked to be going Hamlet's way until Ade Olorunda levelled for the Stones with nine minutes remaining.
The 1-1 scoreline means the status quo is maintained at the summit of the Ryman League South, where Maidstone lead Hamlet three by three points having played an additional game, but Dulwich will rue a first half penalty miss from striker Daniel Carr that in the end proved critical.
A high octane week is set to continue for Dulwich on Saturday as they make the short trip across London to take on local rivals Tooting and Mitcham.
Tooting sit comfortably in mid-table, having been relegated from the Ryman Premier League last season, but they are one of only two sides to take points off Hamlet at Champion Hill this year.
Club Secretary Martin Eeede said of the weekend clash: "There is something of a Kent cartel in this league and we go here, there and everywhere to play our games. So it's nice to have an away game where it's not so far. There are nice people at Tooting who it will be good to catch up with." He added: "Of course our fans and theirs have a keen rivalry which always gives this game something different. We are the form team at the minute but as we saw at New Year, when they got a deserved draw at Champion Hill, that tends to go out of the window in this derby. That was the last time we dropped points at home before the Maidstone match, and whilst they are rebuilding their side we expect them to up their game. But we are looking forward to it and as always I know Gavin [Rose] will have the boys ready and up for the game. Hopefully that will mean another three points in our promotion quest."

Next up was the Good Friday weekend edition of the 'South London Press'. They featured on the derby game:

Injury worry for Tooting encounter

Dulwich Hamlet boss Gavin Rose is sweating over the fitness of his goalkeeper Phil Wilson ahead of theri visit to Tooting & Mitcham tomorrow (3pm). Wilson was hospitalised following Tuesday's game against Maidstone. He was injured prior to the build-up of Maidstone's equaliser. Dulwich had led for 78 minutes but were unable to hang on for the victory that would have taken them joint top of the Ryman League Division One South. On Wilson, Rose said: "He had to go off to A&E and we're hoping that it's not too bad. He has been excellent for us this year and we were hoping that we'll know a little bit more later". Dulwich led from the third minute through Nyren Clunis' 13th goal of the season. Danny Carr then missed a penalty in the first half before Ade Olurunda equalised for Maidstone nine minutes from time. Dulwich have a busy Easter, hosting mid-table Chopstead on Easter Monday.

Into April now, and the midweek edition of the 'South London Press', on the 2nd, with our main mention being about Danny Carr:

Rose is my driving force says Carr

Daniel Carr has paid tribute to Dulwich Hamler boss Gavin Rose as the striker mulls over where he will be next season. The 18-year-old has already had a two-week trial with Liverpool and has been asked to have trials at several Championship sides. Arsenal and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the former Reading winger, who was converted to a front man by Rose. Carr, who has 24 goals in 25 games since signing for the Champion Hill outfit, told the club website: "Gavin has been quite influential in my development. When I came to Dulwich it was as a winger and he saw something in me as a striker and he has been proved right. He helped me with my movement and that has helped me progress and with my confidence. But without a doubt I am focussed on Dulwich at the moment. Nothing has been agreed so that is what I need to do. I am 100 per cent a Dulwich player and want them to move up the table."
Dulwich moved level on points with leaders Maidstone Utd with a comfortable 2-0 victory in the derby clash at Tooting & mitcham on Saturday, before yesterday's home game against Chipstead. Ellis Green headed home Erhun Oztumer's cross 20 seconds after the restart. Then a Green cross was headed past a stranded Tooting keeper Darren Behcet into his own goal by a defender to give Dulwich a comfortable derby victory as the title race took another twist with Maidstone's defeat at Sittingbourne. Dulwich travel to Faversham on Saturday.

(Hamlet Pitchero note: We did not actually interview Danny Carr. The 'South London Press' lifted the piece from a video interview with him, conducted by 'Fox in the Box Productions', after the final whistle of the Tooting away game; for which we put an a link to on here)
