THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – WINGATE AND FINCHLEY (HOME)

THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – WINGATE AND FINCHLEY (HOME)

Points at premium today at top and bottom as Dulwich entertain Wingate's Raiders at Champion Hill.

The battle for the playoff places is reaching fever pitch, seven clubs still with a legitimate claim on a ticket to the annual end of season shootout to join Champions-elect Wealdstone in the Conference South. Dulwich will be aiming to add to the hard won three points taken from Bury Town in midweek thanks to Xavier Vidal’s poached goal just after the break. Conversely, Wingate and Finchley find them drawn ever more tantalisingly close into the relegation web after a barren run of their own. The improved form of fellow strugglers such as Enfield Town and East Thurrock United as well as inconsistent form of their own that has seen them slip from a comfortable mid-table spot in midterm to just two places and two wins shy of the last relegation spot currently occupied by East Thurrock with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.

Recent form has been patchy to say the least with the Blues failing to find the net in four of their last five games, the exception being away to Cray Wanderers when they missed the chance to put some breathing space between themselves and the relegation trapdoor, leading twice before being pegged back to a draw by Alex Stavrinou’s 85th minute equaliser.

Worse was to follow two days later when Wingate and Finchley made a long trip up to Lowestoft on a chilly Tuesday night only to be be run ragged in the second half as the hosts bolstered their own playoff aspiration with a 7-0 victory. The following Saturday another of the playoff chasers inflicted more misery on the Blues as AFC Hornchurch left the Harold Abrahams Stadium with a valuable victory, George Purcell reinforcing his claim to the Isthmian League Golden Boot as he bagged a brace in a 3-0 triumph for the men from Essex.

Though Wingate again failed to find their scoring boots last Tuesday when Margate were the guests, the players’ industry in a taut scoreless draw with a Margate side with little to play for but pride drew praise from their manager.

This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.

The turnstiles will be open from approximately 12.30 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. As a healthy crowd is expected, why not avoid the late rush and relax.
