THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – WORTHING (HOME) – FA CUP

THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – WORTHING (HOME) – FA CUP

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” or more accurately a FA Cup run of 1080 minutes begins with a home tie against Worthing!

Time to put behind us for a moment the travails of a league campaign that has yet to kick into gear after the promise born of a battling victory over moneybags Margate recently as FA Cup dreams invade the Hamlet this weekend.

Not that it will be any easy task for though our old friends from the Sussex coast sit a division below Dulwich in the Isthmian South, the Rebels have found their form of late after a season’s opening that saw them pluck just a single point from their opening three games. Rebels started the campaign with two defeats and a draw before a Curtis Gayler’s goal late on made sure of all three points at Carshalton Athletic to kick-start the season.

The following Saturday the Rebels doubled their win tally as Ryman League newcomers, East Grinstead Town, were shut out allowing Lloyd Davies to bag a winner with just four minutes left on the clock. Worthing’s defence was fast becoming the Ebenezer Scrooge’s of the South, watertight once more when entertaining divisional rivals Guernsey in the previous round of the FA Cup. The Islanders up, down start to the season continued with a 2-0 defeat at Woodside Road as Trevor McCreadie found the net in each half to help his side to a more comfortable than had perhaps been expected victory.

McCreadie was again on the mark last Saturday as his spot kick gave the Rebels the lead on his old stomping ground of Hastings United’s Pilot Field. However, after some 377 minutes without a breach the Rebel résistance finally gave way as veteran Tim Oloruanda, the guilty par in the concession of the penalty, atoned with a spectacular late volley to give the hosts a share of the spoils in the Sussex derby.

Midweek saw Worthing extend their unbeaten run to six games, moving up to tenth in the Division with victory at rock-bottom Walton Casuals. The Rebels took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Harvey Sparks broke forward to find McCreadie, who made no mistake with his finish, bagging his fourth goal in three games and making him the key danger man for Dulwich to watch this afternoon. On 78 minutes, the lead was doubled when Will Hendon ran on to a through ball, keeping his cool to slot home his first goal of the season.

This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.

The turnstiles will be open from approximately 12.30 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. As a very healthy crowd is expected, why not avoid the late rush and relax. Before the game enjoy a drink or snack in our cosy clubhouse with live sport on the big screens, conveniently situated just a short walk from the turnstiles?
