THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – CORINTHIAN-CASUALS (AWAY)
Casuals on the cards as Dulwich Hamlet look to move onwards and upwards.
Dulwich Hamlet will look to build on Saturday’s excellent win over Folkestone Invicta as they travel to Corinthian-Casuals, a team that has too often provided a stumbling block to Pink and Blue ambitions. The pristine greensward of King George’s Fields might prove more conducive to the Hamlet’s ground based attacks than the Casuals more strong-arm approach but often the physical approach of the hosts has proved decisive in past contests, something manager Gavin Rose will be keen to counter this evening.
This season has proved a struggle for the Casuals, only their first win secured at the weekend when Jamie Byatt popped up with a stoppage time winner to burst Worthing’s bubble on Saturday. Yet despite their lowly position, the Casuals have proved resilient opponents, losing just twice in league outings, on Maidstone’s spanking new 3G pitch and at the hands of a Burgess Hill, freshly injected with new blood and bread. Those two defeats proved the thin dripping between hunks of draws, including a thriller at home to newly promoted Three Bridges when EIGHT goals were shared and a goalless stalemate at Hamlet’s last victims, Folkestone.
Key danger man must always be the diminutive Byatt, an experienced forward who has already chipped in with a quartet of goals in the current campaign capped by Saturday’s winner at Worthing. However, it was ‘keeper Danny Bracken who earned the bulk of the plaudits that afternoon with a string of fine saves to keep the Rebels at bay.
Rose should have the overdue luxury of a strong squad to select from this evening as number of injury worries seem to have eased. The Invicta game saw a defence considered Hamlet’s strongest by most, able to start for the first time in a long while after Phil Wilson, Kalvin Morath-Gibbs and Ahmed Deen all returned from injury layoffs and though Junior Kadi may need to rest the old bones after a vigorous workout against the Men of Kent, Roe has plenty of young blood as backup.
