THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – FAVERSHAM TOWN (HOME) 7.45 PM

After the glories of the weekend Dulwich Hamlet return to the hunt for silverware

Tonight they host the Salters in the Isthmian League Cup Sponsored by Robert Dyas with the Alan Turvey Trophy at stake for the eventual winners.

Whilst Dulwich remain in the hunt for silverware on three fronts, FA Trophy and London Senior Cup in addition to this competition, the League Cup has become a last chance saloon for Faversham Town. However, in the FA Cup, they proved their tenacity taking Dulwich’s Premier Division counterparts Staines Town on a replay before exiting at First Qualifying Round stage. In the FA Trophy they lost by just a single goal at the Shepherd Neame Stadium against Bury Town, whom Dulwich must travel to in the First Round Proper. Meanwhile in the Kent Senior Cup, the Salters fell at the first hurdle but given the opposition came in the shape of a highflying Tonbridge Angels side, it did them credit that they made the Angels work hard for their win, Tom Parkinson’s late goal the cigarette paper between the two teams on the night.

Faversham’s trek through the Turvey Trophy began back in balmy August when George Monger’s goal ensured a draw away to Whitstable Town, the tie settles by a penalty shootout. The Salters’ aim was true throughout allowing them to advance to a Second Round home tie with Folkestone Invicta. Surprisingly with a high profile league encounter between the two clubs just a few days away, both managers named very strong line-ups. Though chances in the first half were few and far between the one that mattered fell the way of the hosts as Carl Rook converted just before the break. However, after the interval it was Faversham holding the whip hand as goals from Daniel Carrington and Charley Robertson sealed the tie in favour of the hosts.

In Ryman Division One South the Salters are currently embroiled in a fascinating fight for promotion, arriving at Champion Hill on the back of an eight game unbeaten run in the league that has propelled them from mid-table at the end of October. Despite being held to a draw at Walton Casuals at the weekend, Stuart King’s goal just after halftime cancelled out 10 minutes later by Marcel Barrington, Faversham Town held on to fifth spot seven points adrift of leaders Folkestone Invicta. All this after a sticky start to the season for a club expected to be up there and fighting for the title form the off, particularly after manager Ray Turner had guided the club into the playoffs in two of the previous three campaigns.

That goal on Saturday for Faversham leading scorer Stuart King certainly marked him out as one to watch in the Salters’ line-up. It kept going an incredible strike rate of seven goals in his last six league outings for the first team including a hat trick away to Hastings United, King’s tally taken to a round dozen at the weekend for the former Maidstone United man. However, the attack force found itself shorn of two of its main threats when Wayne Wilson accepted the vacant management hot seat at Whitstable Town brining striker Dean Grant to bolster the faltering attack of the rock-bottom Oystermen. Between them the pair had contributed 17 goals that may be much missed in the months to come.

This evening’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.

The turnstiles will be open from approximately 6.00 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. Before the game why not enjoy a drink or snack in our cosy clubhouse with live sport on the big screens, conveniently situated just a short walk from the turnstiles?
