THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – KINGSTONIAN (AWAY)

THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – KINGSTONIAN (AWAY)

The season may be only one game old but there is a top of the table clash in store at Kingsmeadow tonight as Dulwich travel to the opening day leaders

After finishing runners-up last season only to bomb out in the playoffs, the K’s had a further shock in the close season as manager Alan Dowson pulled down the curtain on his seven-year tenure on the Kingsmeadow hot seat that had seen the club rebuild its reputation after many years in the doldrums. The vacant post proved popular and, in late May, after much deliberation the K’s board made the unanimous decision to hand the reins to former Carshalton Athletic boss Tommy Williams.

Like the Hamlet, the K’s faced a hectic preseason, packing seven games into a month ahead of the new campaign. Results were mixed, a brace of goals from Elvis Hammond helping K's to their third consecutive Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase triumph at Corinthian-Casuals as Merstham were beaten 3-0 in the final the high point whilst losing twice to Ryman South opposition in the shape of Tooting & Mitcham and Merstham (again) whilst drawing with Whyteleafe on the new synthetic Church Road pitch.

Ahead of the opening day away trip to Enfield Town, the club was seized with an injury crisis in defence with Aaron Goode (knee), Ryan Blake (hip), Sam Page (calf) and Alan Inns (glut) all facing late fitness tests on morning of the match. The travelling K’s faithful must have feared the worse, even more so when their side found themselves a goal down and a man shy to a Town side who stayed up by the skin of their teeth last term after Matt Drage had been dismissed in the 8th minute and Corey Whiteley had given the hosts the lead five minutes later. Yet the ten men managed to dig deep. Five minutes after going behind Andre McCollin levelled before Hammond put the K’s in front on the stroke of halftime. Although Whiteley bagged the second of his brace two minutes into the second half the makeshift Kingstonian backline held strong before an own goal from former hamlet favourite Stanley Muguo put them back in front with 20 minutes left. Hammond added his second four minutes later before Tyrone Berry wrapped up a comprehensive 5-2 victory with three minutes left on the clock.

This evening’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm at Kingsmeadow Stadium, Jack Goodchild Way, 422a Kingston Road, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey KT1 3PB. Directions can be found on the Kingstonian website by clicking here
