THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – WINGATE & FINCHLEY (HOME) KO 7.45PM

THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – WINGATE & FINCHLEY (HOME) KO 7.45PM

Time to give the season a kick-start as Dulwich Hamlet entertain Wingate & Finchley at Champion Hill in a must-win Ryman League Premier Division game.

Ten days on from a 1-1 draw away at the Harry Abrahams Stadium, Dulwich Hamlet welcome Wingate and Finchley back to Champion Hill as they look for a morale boosting victory in the wake of a six match run without a win that has seen them sink from top spot in what has been a frustrating six weeks. A comprehensive 4-0 victory last night for Kingstonian over Brentwood Town meant that for the first time since mid-September the Hamlet sit outside the playoffs spots emphasising the urgency to return to that irresistible form that saw Gavin Rose’s men take a firm grip on league leadership for so long.

Wingate too will be looking to restore some of their own after a four match winless run of their own. The remarkable second half turnaround in the Blues’ trip to highflying Tonbridge Angels left Keith Rowland’s team still searching for their first victory since Billy Healey’s hat trick dispatched Enfield Town from the Ryman League Cup at the quarter final stage back on 15th February. That victory that followed back-to-back Ryman League wins away to Leiston (1-0) and at home to Burgess Hill Town (5-1). On Saturday at the Longmead Stadium it looked to going so well for the Blues as Alex Addai fired them into a sixteenth minute lead before Healey continued his goal scoring streak, bagging a brace of goals to put Wingate firmly in the driving seat with 51 minutes played. Then suddenly in less than a quarter hour, the contest was thrown topsy-turvy. Three minutes after Healey’s second Jerome Sobers angled home a header before the same player narrowed the Blues’ advantage with a close-range effort to make it 2-3. Nathan Elder scrambled home an equaliser three minutes later. But for stopper Chris Haigh’s acrobatic save it might have been advantage Angels as he somehow kept out a goal bound Luke Blewden header but it was all to no avail as from the resultant corner Elder powered home a bullet header that proved to be the points clincher.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.

The turnstiles will be open from approximately 6.15 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. Before the game why not enjoy a drink or snack in our cosy clubhouse with live sport on the big screens, conveniently situated just a short walk from the turnstiles? The bar will open serving a range of excellent ales including selections from local breweries such as First Team main sponsor Late Knights Brewery as well as Clarkshaws and the Brick Brewery.
