Time to get your kit off again!
On Saturday, when we host Thurrock FC at Tooting & Mitcham United, we are again collecting sports gear for Africa.
As we have done before, over the last couple of seasons, on Saturday we are pleased once more to welcome back to one of our home matches, for the third consecutive season, Julian Chenery, who holds ‘Kit Amnesty Days’ at various non-league venues up and down the land, where both clubs and individual fans are asked to bring along any unwanted sports kits, be they whole strips, individual items, unwanted boots and trainers, which they ship out to Africa where even the most basic or worn items are desperately needed, being in scarce supply and be much cherished. With him on Saturday afternoon as our guests are Osman Sesay from Sierra Leone and Alex Tugume (Uganda) who both work and support schools - children & adult education - in their respective countries with both having junior and adult teams.
So we need as many of you as possible not just to go through your cupboards for old stuff you don't use, be they replica shirts, shorts, socks, boots or trainers; but also:
If you used to run a Sunday or Junior side, or are involved with one, please check with them to see if you have any unwanted kit lying around in garages or attics. What is forgotten by yourself will be very much cherished in Africa, where such sports gear is not just in much much demand, but also totally unaffordable to most.
Whether it be an entire kit or individual items, every single thing you hand over will be used, and appreciated by those who cannot afford it themselves.
We also welcome donations from any fans of our hosts Tooting and Mitcham United, which they can drop off to the foyer at the KNK Stadium, prior to travelling to their away match across the other side of London at Harrow Borough, and we shall have a Dulwich Hamlet Committee Member to receive donations on site at Tooting's ground from 10.00am onwards on the day, this Saturday 14th April.
We would also love to have any donations from our own visitors who are coming from Thurrock FC.
Please spread the word, and start rummaging over the next few days!
In anticipation, many thanks to all who contribute.
