TODAY’S MATCH PREVIEW – TONBRIDGE ANGELS (HOME) KICK-OFF 3.00PM
Easter Monday and Champion Hill welcomes Tonbridge Angels with vital points at stake in the race to make the playoffs.
Coming off the back of Saturday’s battling, if ultimately frustrating, draw away to Enfield Town Dulwich Hamlet there’s no rest for the weary as Tonbridge Angels provide the opposition in a Battle Royale for much needed points in the promotion chase. The Angels currently hold on to third spot, a point shy of East Thurrock United and five behind current table topper Hampton & Richmond Borough. Steve McKimm’s men come into today’s contest on the back of four wins in their last five outings, the only blot on that copybook a surprise single goal defeat away to mid table Met Police.
When the clubs met back at the start of January a thousand plus crowd packed into the Longmead Stadium despite atrocious weather conditions and witnessed a titanic battle that swung one way then the other. The Angels had by far the better of the opening 45 minutes and had a goal disallowed for offside after 12 minutes but they could not push through their dominance and it was all change after the break as Dulwich’s attacking threat intensified throughout the second half. The breakthrough finally came with 16 minutes left when Mitchell Nelson rising highest to meet a Damian Scannell corner, his header slipping under the dive of goalkeeper Anthony di Bernardo to put the Hamlet ahead. Dulwich were denied the chance to double their lead when Ryan Moss was inexplicably flagged for offside after netting whilst Damian Scannell was penalised in the box when he appeared to be the one sinned against rather than the sinner. Deep into stoppage time a quick free kick routine rescued a point for the hosts when Nathan Elder drifted into the box to glance a nifty header past Phil Wilson to see the game finish honours even.
This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.
The turnstiles will be open from approximately 1.00 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals.
