A brief history of the trophy from our friends from Bromley:

Though the fixture is a pre-season friendly, as is tradition now, the sides will battle it out for the Glyn Beverly Memorial Cup. Glyn was a man who represented both Clubs at Boardroom level, having been Chairman at Bromley during the 1980s and 1990s, steering the Club through some difficult times. As well as this, he also had a spell with the Hamlet as Vice-Chairman.

In more recent times, he was Club President at Hayes Lane, proudly representing the Club at home and away matches, and seeing the Ravens achieve three promotions, as well as establishing themselves as a National League Club and making the transition to full-time football.

Glyn sadly passed away in December 2017, and is still sorely missed, but very, very fondly remembered as a man who gave so much to the Club he loved. In July 2019, the all-seater Glyn Beverly Stand was unveiled, a lasting legacy of a man who is a true legend of Bromley Football Club.

The Ravens and The Hamlet have battled it out for the past three seasons in the competition, with Dulwich winning on two occasions, and Bromley winning once. In fact, on each of the three occasions, the visiting side has won the cup, all of them being on penalties.

The first occasion, back in July 2018, took place at Hayes Lane as both sides locked horns with their pre-season preparations underway. Nyren Clunis put the visitors into an early lead, beating David Gregory in the Bromley goal with a smart finish.

The Ravens piled on the pressure, however, and it eventually wielded a goal, as Bobby Joe-Taylor’s effort deflected in off Quade Taylor with just a matter of minutes left.

The match then went to penalties, and it was the visitors who would come out on top 6-5, with Clunis scoring what proved to be the decisive spot kick.

The following season saw the fixture played at Champion Hill, and this time it would be the Ravens who took an early lead. Luke Coulson’s crisp strike just a minute into the match was too much for Charlie Grainger to handle. However, it was a goal a minute before the end that would force another penalty shootout, as David Gregory was unable to keep Danny Mills’ header out.

This time though, it was the Ravens who prevailed on penalties, with Jack Holland lifting the Trophy. Ironically, Bromley legend Holland is expected to line up against the Ravens in this year’s fixture.

The third and most recent fixture was played at Hayes Lane, in front of no crowd back in 2020. Again, the match ended 1-1, with a Holland own goal being cancelled out by a Byron Webster effort. For the third year running, the score was 1-1 at 90 minutes and a penalty shootout ensued. With Bromley only managing to score one, and the Hamlet converting all of theirs, the away side claimed the Glyn Beverly Memorial Cup 1-3 on penalties.
