Travelling to Welling United?

Travelling to Welling United?

And so a new chapter begins as we play our face match in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow.

The Hamlet travel the relatively short distance to Welling United for what will be our first ever league meeting.

The Wings are now an established name in the Vanarama National League and boast a host of new signings and the most successful manager at Step 2 in our former Youth Team Manager, Steve King. King joined Welling in the summer from Whitehawk where he replaced former Hamlet player. Jamie Coyle.; Coyle now being in charge of Welling's bitter rivals Dartford.

Park View Road is located between Welling (Zone4 ) & Bexleyheath (Zone 5) stations served by trains from central London at London Bridge, Cannon Street, Victoria & Charing Cross. It is also on the line to Dartford from Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Nunhead, New Cross & Lewisham.

Bus routes 96, 89, B16 and 486 run past the ground which is closest to the Guy Earl of Warwick stop.

For those using their car there are no parking restrictions on any side roads.

Admission prices are:

Adults £12
Over 65's (with ID ) £8
12-17 (with ID) £5
Under 12 - Free with an adult.

Programmes £2.50

The club bar is small but open from midday whilst next to the ground is the Guy earl of Warwick. The local Weatherspoons is the New Cross Turnpike, about a 10 minute walk away towards Welling Station, and there is also a Toby Carvery at Crook Log, around 5 minutes walk towards Bexleyheath.

Those seeking micro pubs will find The Kentish Belle, recently opened close to Bexleyheath Station and The Door Hinge almost opposite.

For more details of local pubs then Daryl gave a great rundown on the Urban 75 forum that I have repeated below:

The Kentish Belle, next to Bexleyheath station, is a brilliant micropub and definitely worth a visit.

And Eltham's famous and also brilliant Long Pond micropub (near Eltham station) is a shortish ride away on the B16 bus - perhaps one for the trip home.

Bonus micropub crawl: Beer nerds might like to try a mini-micropub crawl on the way.

Instead of going to Welling/Bexleyheath, get off at Sidcup (zone 5, trains from London Bridge/Lewisham).
Near Sidcup station, you'll find the Hackney Carriage
Get a Woolwich-bound 51 bus to The Oval (not that one), where you'll find The Hangar, which only opened a couple of months back.

Walk up Wellington Avenue (or take the 51 one stop), cross Blackfen Road, walk past the George Staples/Woodman and you'll get to the Broken Drum. This is a bit more old-school with the emphasis on the beer and a friendly guv'nor (set up in an old nail bar).

Back on the 51 again, jump off in the centre of Welling, and you'll be 5-10 minutes' walk from the Door Hinge and Welling's ground.
