Unlike England...charity was the winner last night...

As Dulwich Hamlet fans gathered to raise money for the Motor Neurone Diseas Association for a great moral victory...

Dulwich Hamlet fans and friends raised £1850 for MND at an England v Uruguay World Cup Party on Thursday 19 June
An aroma of freshly baked cakes wafted across the Dulwich Hamlet FC club bar last night. About 70 fans and friends gathered to watch the England v Uruguay game; while cramming as much homemade cakes and locally brewed Brick Brewery beer into their mouths as possible. All for a good cause of course!

Punters dug deep into their pockets to raise a fantastic £1850 for the
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association during the course of the evening. The money will provide vital support for people living with MND, their families and carers. It will also enable [/url]the MND Association to continue research into finding a cure for the fatal disease, which affects up to 5,000 people in the UK at any one time.

Organiser, Suzanne Case, said “I am delighted with all the support from Dulwich Hamlet FC last night and the money raised. My Dad and I were really touched by all the support. MND is a charity close to our hearts. It’s just a shame England couldn’t replicate the same performance!”
The star attraction of the night’s auction was a Dulwich Hamlet season ticket. Robert Vaughan (a.k.a. the man with the Voodoo stick) oversaw the frenzied bidding. The ultimate winner, Rebecca Cummings surely gains the honour of becoming the first person to secure a season ticket without ever having been to a game! But such was the power of the “Rabble” in attendance last night, Rebecca was convinced to attend all of next season.

The Rabble Raffle was also a great success. Our Chairman, Jack Payne, won the 2nd season ticket on offer for next season. Jack decided he probably doesn’t really need it! He kindly decided to donate it to the ‘12th Man’, so the next person who buys a season ticket from the club will see the funds donated to that scheme, which is run by the fans to boost the playing budget of Gavin Rose.

The raffle also included several items of Buckfast merchandise, a drink of choice for some behind the goal, which proved popular. Jack Spearman and Nisha Damji were particularly delighted with their Buckfast clock. Jack said “England may have lost, but I got a Buckfast clock, which is probably better than an England victory anyway!” Yes, Jack you convince yourself of that.

If you were not able to attend last night, and wish to donate, then you are welcome to do so BY CLICKING HERE.

Let’s push the final total above £2000, and double Suzanne’s initial target.
