Update from the Board: December 2020

Update from the Board: December 2020

Update from the board on the latest covid situation

On Tuesday we took the decision to switch to playing our game against Cheshunt behind closed doors after the announcement that London was to move into Tier 3 a day later. Whilst the rules and guidelines at the time would have allowed our fans to attend we felt it was the responsible course of action in light of the rising infection rates in our community. We continue to work closely with the team at Southwark Council and their advice and incredibly responsive feedback was a huge help as always in taking that decision.

The men’s team will continue to play behind closed doors for the foreseeable future due to their elite sport status and that sadly will mean not only today’s game but also the Boxing Day league fixture. We do not expect the situation to improve until the new year but we will continue to monitor the situation and any changes to tiers, regulations or guidelines. Due to an exemption for grassroots football (i.e. below the elite levels) our women’s teams can continue to play with spectators however we have also taken the decision that we will apply our same safety guidelines to all games and wait before welcoming back fans so that we can protect our community, volunteers, players, staff and fans and also avoid the risk of contributing to the burden on the NHS and other key services in our local area. This will affect our women’s first team scheduled home fixture on January 3rd and so we will not now be placing tickets on sale for that game.

All of our home games will continue to be made available to watch online for free and we will continue to provide as much additional content as we can during these restrictions.

We hope that you have a safe and relaxing time over the holidays and look after yourselves and others and hopefully we will be able to look forward to a better year together in 2021.
