Vanarama’s Fanarama with Dulwich Hamlet
The Hamlet’s season so far, the year that was and what 2020 has to offer!
Dulwich die-hard Louise McGetrick offers league sponsors Vanarama her take on 2019 - and explains just how she first fell in love with the club
We all love our club, but why did you start following Dulwich in the first place?
My brother Gary has been following Dulwich for years and one day asked me to come along to the Bognor Regis Town play-off semi final in 2016. Then it happened…CAREWWWWWWWWWW!!! A 90th minute winner. After just one game I. Was. Hooked.
What makes the Hamlet so unique and so special to you?
Dulwich have just recently won the Football Supporters' Association (FSA) National Game Community Award for 2019 and this highlights how much the club does for community. They really are a special and unique football club and I am extremely proud to support them.
We’re approaching the half-way point of the season already - sum things up.
We started off so well with wins in August. Unfortunately we haven't been able to keep that going and we have slipped further and further down the table. If we can get a couple of wins and get the confidence back into the team, I'm sure we'll be fine.
The start was so strong of course - but how can you go about getting that form back?
I think a consistent first XI could help, changing the team often when you are going through a bad run sometimes may not be a good thing. The players, management and all of us fans are all feeling it at the moment, but we are there every week, willing the team on. Long live The Rabble!
The busy Christmas and New Year calendar - love it or hate it?
Can you imagine a Boxing Day without football fixtures? Me neither! I love it.
Christmas is coming - if you could gift wrap one present for Gavin Rose, what would it be?
VAR...we've had some right dodgy decisions given against us lately!
What will 2020 bring for the club?
Hopefully enough points that secures our safety and positive news on our planning application for the new stadium.
Your Hamlet player of the season so far?
Danny Mills - he was my one to watch before the season started. I think he's great.
How proud were you during the FA Cup run?
So proud. We did so well to reach the first round proper and then to be rewarded with a live televised game was amazing, it felt like a fairy tale. What a moment for the club.
From what you have seen, who is winning the National League South?
I know Wealdstone have a bit of the lead at the moment, but I think Havant & Waterlooville will be champions.
We all love away days: what one sticks out this season as your favourite and why?
Havant & Waterlooville away in the FA Cup Fourth round qualifier. When the draw was made I was a little worried, I must admit - but we pulled it off and made the first round proper! What a feeling that was.
The National League’s leasing partner Vanarama have this season launched the Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
