We speak to Gavin Rose after a good Easter
Talking about the Tooting victory and a lot more!
It was a cracking derby day win, the supporters' were clearly well pleased. Were you too?
"Of course. A good result in a derby game isn't always easy, but this is the sort of result we need to give us a chance of promotion and maybe win the League"
The Tooting manager Phil Simpson was full of praise for our supporters and our noisy fans. That must have been quite pleasing for you?
"To be honest it's what I expect from him. He's a classy guy who's played football at a higher level, so knows his stuff, & knows how to carry himself. It's the measure of the person he is. With regard to our support, well it was just magnificent again, & all the singing & more, certainly plays a part in our victories."
It must have been a bit of an anti-climax against Chipstead, but we managed to get all three points.
"Undoubtedly it was hard for the boys to come up again after the highs of Saturday. We only had one day to rest, in a very busy period, so they were quite fatigued. It was only about the 2nd game in four weeks for Chipstead, so they were a lot fresher. It might not have been the most impressive to watch, maybe, but I'm not going to take take too much notice of the performance at this stage."
There appear to be a few injury worries now. Can you give us a bit of a run-down on them, after the busy holiday weekend?
"Yes, Danny Carr took a bit of a knock, some sort of muscle strain, we won't be quite sure until the swelling goes down. Connor French was injured on Saturday, his leg has swelled all up, and he might be out for up to two weeks, which would be a massive blow for us, as he has acquitted himself really well. Nyren Clunis is struggling a little with muscular problems, and we're trying to rest him a little, which is why he was coming off. And Ellis Green was another who took a knock. It's all the attacking lads who seem to have been through the wars, but we shall battle on, & they will give their all."
And can you tell us about our four new signings?
"Yes, sure. Dean Lodge has joined from Kingstonian. I've known him since he was 14 or 15,when he was a promising young professional, on the books of Queens Park Rangers. He been around in non-league football & is successful. Kingstonian let him go after they cut their budget after it looked as though they wouldn't be going up, so I got in contact with him. He's also a local East Dulwich Boy. Jake Rose is also a local lad, who we've signed from AFC Wimbledon. He's been at Champion Hill watching The Hamlet for many years as a kid, his mum Lindsey used to work behind the bar. We'll have to see how we can integrate him into the side. We've also signed Matthieu Boyer, who is a central midfielder, who has moved over from France, who we have just received international clearance for. he has been playing in their CFA leagues, which is their fourth level. And, also a goalkeeper Chico Ramos, who has been around, and who came to my attention around the time he played for Leatherhead, when we played them in the 2010 play-off final. We signed him from Waltham Forest. He's impressive mentally, cool headed, with a professional approach."
And, finally, we have a difficult game at play-off challengers Faversham Town on Saturday. your thoughts?
"It's going to be very tough. They are one of the best sides I've seen in our division all season. Against us at our place they went down to ten men, & you would'nt have realised that they had done so. At the time I said that they were easily a top half side, and that has proved to be the case. So, yes, I epxect it to be hard, but with the backing of all of our supporters who travel again in numbers down to Kent I hope we can come back with all three points"
