What our local papers said this week...
Or to be more succinct..what they NEVER said, as the local round-up, was the lightest it has been all season.
In the 'South London Press' midweek edition, on Tuesday, we had the sorry headline in their non-league column of:
'Hamlet hit for five by merciless Maidstone'
"Dulwich Hamlet lost 5-0 at Maidstone United on Saturday and will be hoping to avoid a hat-trick of reverses when they travel to Eastbourne Town in the League Cup on Wednesday. Alex Flisher and Shaun Welford both scored twice for Maidstone, who only led 2-0 at half-time, with Tom Mills also registering. The result leaves Dulwich 12th in the Ryman Division One South table, five points behind leaders Crawley Down Gatwick."
Nothing at all in in the weekly Thursday edition of the 'Southwark News'! Not helped, I would guess, by our midweek game being on Wednesday evening, as they got to press earlier in the day.
Yesterday the weekend copy of the 'South London Press' the main non-league page concentrated on the caretaker management of former Hamlet bit-part player Jamie Martin, currently in the Tooting & Mitcham United hotseat, on a caretaker basis, as he attempts to move them from ROCK BOTTOM spot of our division.
We led on the secondary article, but not much to read:
Hamlet back on track
"Dulwich host Leatherhead tomorrow ready to build on a 2-1 Isthmian League Cup victory at Eastbourne on Wednesday. Hamlet's victory came despite the hosts taking the lead early on in the game. A penalty put Eastbourne ahead after keeper James Tedder brought down an opposition player in the area. But then Frankie Sawyer converted a ball over the top. And Erhun Oztumer headed the winner late on."
And that was the weekly news from our local rags! All available from paper shops all over Southwark. The 'South London Press' is 50p each issue, so a pound a week; while the 'Southwark News' is available every Thursday for only forty pence.
