What our papers said...

What our papers said...

Welcome to this week's round-up of all of the news from our local newspapers

On Tuesday the 'South London Press' covered our victory at Leiston, in their midweek edition:

Mac chips in with Hamet goal

Dean McDonald opened his goal aacount for Dulwich Hamlet in their 2-0 win over Leiston on Saturday.
He put the South Londoners into a second-minute lead before being fouled in the penalty area after the break-Ashley Carew dispatching the spot-kick.
Unbeaten Dulwich-fourth in the Ryman Premier-are at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe tonight.

The weekly 'Southwark News' also reported on the Leiston triumph:

Away day joy for Hamlet

A solid performance secured the three points for Hamlet against a Leiston side that had started the day with maximum points from their opening two league fixtures.
Dulwich got off to the best possible start in the second minute when Terrell Forbes found Laurent Hamici 25 yards out and the latter let fly with an effort that produced a great save from home keeper Danny Gay who parried the ball to his right.
However Dean McDonald picked up the loose ball, stepped inside the covering defender and dispatched his shot past Gay and into the top corner for hisfirst goal for Hamlet.
Leiston then established a dominance that came close to producing an equaliser. Keeper Phil Wilson saved the best Leiston chance from Craig Parker after a goalmouth scramble.
Hamlet centre-half Ethan Pinnock shot just over in the 35 minute and with stoppage time being played Nyren Clunis was played through but Gay denied him with a fine save.
The second goal arrived in the 66 minute as clever play from McDonald saw him draw a rash challenge from Tom Bullard and the referee pointed to the spot. Ashley Carew stepped up and dispatched the penalty.
Abdul Mansaray then set up Xavier Vidal but his low shot was saved by Gay low to his left. Leiston went close with thriteen minutes left as a long throw found its way to the back post but Wilson blocked.
That was as close as the home side would get, whilst Dulwich came close again as Mansaray was denied a penalty when he was clipped as he tried to round Gay.
On Tuesday night against Peacehaven & Telscombe the fine early season form of Hamlet continued as they won once again, this time 3-1.
Clunis opened the scoring for the Pink & Blues with Carew and Nigel Neita bagging second half efforts. Sami Elabd netted an injury time consolation effor for Peacehaven.

The paper also ran a piece on manager Gavin Rose's thoughts on the start to the season, clearly written BEFORE our win on Tuesday against Peacehaven :

Rose happy to pick up points with Dulwich new breed

Hamlet manager Gavin Rose has admitted he did not expect hisside to start the season so brightly due to the number of new players he has brought in this season.
After three games in the Ryman Premier League Dulwich are undefeated with two wins and a draw, the latest three points coming from the weekend win away at Leiston.
Speaking before Hamlet's Tuesday night game against Peacehaven & Telscombe Rose said: "It's been very good and we have played three decent teams and come away with seven points. We were looking at the early part of the season as a bedding in period for lots of our players and we were not overly optimistic about getting points, but we have done well to get the points we have."
The newcentre-half partnership of Ethan Pinnock and Terrell Forbes have also started well, forcing Hamlet stalwart Lewis Gonsalves to bide his time for a start on the bench.
The Hamlet manager said: "Terrell has got a lot of experience at playing at this level and Ethan Pinncok has been around the club, playing almost 100 games, without really cementing a place. We thought Ethan would eventually be a centre-half and he has done well to this point. Both know we have Lewis, and although both have the shirt now we know we have somebody who can come in and perform if we need too."
Meanwhile Ashley Robinson has gone to Tooting and Mitcham, which Rose described as a long term deal, as the Hamlet gaffer could not find a way to fit the talented midfielder into the Champion Hill playing set-up.
On the injury front both Nyren Clunis and Kevin James have both picked up groin strains, which need to be assessed for seriousness, and Kershaney Samuels has a head injury which will see himsidelined for a couple of weeks.

Finally, today saw the weekend copy of the 'South London Press' hit the news-stands & they focussed on our good form, prior to tomorrow's match:

Dulwich keep up their good start

Dulwich Hamlet host Lewes tomorrow in the Ryman League Premier Division keen to maintain their impressive start that has seen them take three wins and a draw from four games.
One of those wins came on Tuesday as they beat newcomers Peacehaven & Telscombe in front of a 500-strong crowd at Champion Hill.
Nyren Clunis put Gavin Rose'sside 1-0 up at the break. Ashley Carew got his second goal in as many matches to make the game safe, with youngster Nigel Neita putting the icing on the cake before Sami Elabd struck a consolation for Peacehaven in stoppage time.
