What our papers said
It's that time of the week when we give you the round-up from our local press over the last few days.
The Tuesday midweek edition of the 'South London Press' led their non-league column with our victory over Folkestone Invicta:
Otzumer's double ends Hamlet's wait for a win
Dulwich Hamlet finally ended their wait for a win as Erhun Otzumer scored twice in Saturday's victory over league leaders Folkestone Invicta. The Champion Hill side ended a run of three successive defeats as they picked up maximum points in Ryman Division One South. It was Dulwich's first league win since the 3-0 victory over Worthing on September 1. Otzumer put Hamlet ahead on 54 minutes and then was fouled in the 76th minute inside the penalty area and stroked home from the spot. Dulwich, third in the table and now only three points behind Folkestone, are at Corinthian Casuals tonight.
Yesterday the weekly 'Southwark News' broke the news that one of our players suffered a leg break in that Corinthian-Casuals match:
Deen out for season with broken leg
Hamlet full back Ahmed Deen is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg in the midweek defeat against Corinthian Casuals.
A Jamie Byatt goal for the Casuals saw them secure the points in a game where Dulwich dominated possession, but Deen's injury will come as a blow for the Champion Hill side.
The thin squad is likely to be tested over the coming weeks as midfielder Ethan Pinnock goes for a knee operation this week that will keep him out until January.
It was not all bad news for Dulwich as they defeated table toppers Folkestone Invicta on Saturday with crowd favourite Erhun Oztumer bagging both goals.
Dulwich gaffer Gavin Rose expects the season to be tight and at present he can't see anybody running away with the league.
He said: "The league is quite unusualas at this point you do start to see teams breaking away. It's not the case at the moment and the teams are well matched and I think on similar playing budgets. I don't think anybody will be buying their way out of the league this season so it's up to any team to be consistent and get that good run of games."
Rose stated that he did not see this weeks results as a sign of inconsistency as he believes there are no stand out teamd in the division.
He added: "My opinion is that there is not a top team in the league at the moment and you can get beaten by anybody. Folkestone are a good side and we played well to beat them at the weekend. Against the Casuals it was a repeat of what we have done there in recent years in that we dominate possession, miss chances and they are patient, get a chance and win the game."
Hamlet are away at Maidstone United in the League on Saturday, 3pm kick off, before travelling to Eastbourne Town in the League Cup next wednesday. The latter game starts at 7.45pm.
In the weekend copy of the 'South London Press' today, the lead on the non-league page, was unsurprisingly the departure of Tooting & Mitcham United manager Roberto Forzoni, which made no difference, as they slumped to very bottom of our division, losing on Tuesday night.
Below that article our coverage again centred on Ahmed's injury:
Hamlet lose Deen to leg break
Dulwich Hamlet are unlikely to disagree with the old saying that bad luck comes in threes. Fresh from having to release Carl Wilson-Dennis and Vernon Francis because of financial constraints, the club have now suffered the blow of losing defender Ahmed Deen to a broken leg. The left-back suffered the injury on Tuesday night during Hamlet's 1-0 defeat to Corinthian Casuals and manager Gavin Rose fears that he may now be out for the season. "It was a bad challenge and our physio could tell straight away that it might be a break,"said Rose. "Ahmed was taken straight to hospital, where it was later confirmed. At this stage the hospital haven't released any further details, so we don't know the full extent of the injury, but I fear he may be out for the rest of the season." Despite this, Rose remains philosophical about recent events ahead of Saturday's game against Maidstone United. "Obviously this is the last thing we needed and we al lfeel for Ahmed, but it is part of football and just something ypu have to deal with," added Rose.
