What the papers said...

What the papers said...

Here's the news from the last week in the printed press

Usually we try to give you a round-up on a Sunday, but give a break, we were recovering from 'Non League Day' on Saturday!

So here's our catch-up, starting at the end of September, with the 'Non League Paper' from the day after our trip down to the South Coast when we took on Worthing:

A goal in each half from Ibrahim Kargbo and Nyren Clunis gave Dulwich a comfortable victory against bottom side Worthing and lifted them up to third.
Dulwich made the early running but struggled to make a breakthrough.
Worthing seldom threatened and their first sight of goal came when visiting keeper Preston Edwards let slip a low cross from Kieron Pammett only for Rickie Hayles to tidy up.
Dulwich opened the scoring on 28 minutes when a 25-yard shot from Kargbo took a deflection on its way past Lucas Covolan.
The Worthing keeper made fine saves either side of half time as Dulwich continued to dictate the play.
Clunis proved a constant threat and midway through the second half netted the goal his performance deserved with an 18-yard strike into the bottom corner.
Worthing skipper Ben Pope saw red eight minutes from time after a bad challenge on Kenny Beaney and the ten men were saved from a heavier defeat only by the heroics of Covolan who made a series of late stops.
STAR MAN: Nyren Clunis (Dulwich)
ENTERTAINMENT: *** (out of a possible five stars)

On to last Tuesday, in the 'South London Press' midweek edition, and that away game grabbed the non-league column headline:

Hamlet enjoy seaside trip

Dulwich Hamlet moved up to third in Bostik League Premier Division with a 2-0 win at bottom club Worthing United on Saturday.
Ibrahim Kargbo put the South Londoners into a 28th-minute lead at The Bibby Financial Services Stadium before Nyren Clunis made sure of the points midway through the second half.

On Thursday the 'Southwark News' -as well as featuring Non-League Day'- led our piece on the sports pages with the our stance on the League's latest sponsorship deal:

Hamlet to donate betting funds
Dulwich Hamlet are donating any funds they receive through betting sponsorship to charity-after reiterating their objections to such deals.
The Isthmian League this season struck an agreement with Betting.Net, meaning Hamlet are required to carry the logo of the betting company on their website.
Hamlet recognise the need for the league to source funds to help smaller clubs, but have taken the opportunity to raise awareness of gambling addiction.
In a statement this week, Hamlet said: "We have been in discussions with the League and would wish to support them as we understand how difficult it is to secure sponsors and also that the money helps to offset costs for clubs that do not have large revenue. Whilst we would not personally accept sponsorship from betting companies, we do not wish, as a long-serving member club, to go against directives that democratically come from the Isthmian League, so we shall comply with their wishes, while still stating our objections to this sort of sponsorship. We remain fully supportive and appreciate the work put into our league by all of the Isthmian League Management Board. However, we have also taken the opportunity to express our views on sponsorship from the gambling industry and reiterate our club position on this. As part of these discussions, it has been agreed that should the club gain financially from the sponsorship then it will donate that money to a charity that supports those with gambling addictions."
Meanwhile, Hamlet are up to fourth in the Bostik Premier League table, after last Saturday's 2-0 win at Worthing.
Hamlet are participating in Non-League Day when they welcome Needham Market to Champion Hill on Saturday. Kick-off is 3pm and fans can choose what to pay on entry to the ground.

And, finally, to the 'South London Press', from Friday, with which to complete this round-up. We had already covered this on the day, with the Non League Day stories, but here's what they printed, again:

Pay what you like at Dulwich

Dulwich Hamlet are expecting a bumper turnout for Saturday's home game against Needham Market- operating a pay-what-you-like policy.
The Bostik League Premier Division club already boast the biggest crowds in the division and had 1,752 at their last fixture at Champion Hill for a 4-0 win over Leatherhead.
All profits from the match will go to their nominated charities this season-Lambeth & Southwark Mind and the Copleston Centre.
Dulwich boss Gavin Rose has fresh injury headaches going into the weekend with strikers Dumebi Dumaka and Muhammadu Faal both sidelined.
He said: "Dumebi's problem is with his knee and he could be out quite long-term. Muhammadu we are hoping is a short-term one, he has injured his ankle. Sanchez Ming is back from suspension and available this weekend but we are still plaqued by injuries."
Gavin Tomlin, Anthony Acheampon and Nathan Green are all ruled out for Hamlet.
Dulwich could have a gate in excess of 2,000 this weekend.
Rose said: "You'd hope we would reach that figure with the money going to charity and people being able to choose how much they pay to get in."
