Whitehawk 4-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Whitehawk 4-2 Dulwich Hamlet

A hat trick from Whitehawk's Danny Mills extended Dulwich's poor F A Cup record.

Dulwich employed Matt Drage in front of their back four to endeavour to shore up the defence for their visit to the high flying Hawks.

The Hamlet could have been a goal down in the second minute as Deering crossed to the unmarked Robinson but he wasn't able to control properly and he was crowded out.

However, they did falll behind in the 9th minute when the ball broke to Mills in the box. Wilson was quickly off his line with a block tackle but to everybody's surprise the referee pointed to the spot. Having made that decision even more surprising was that he chose to only book Wilson. Deering stepped up to convert the penalty.

Robinson could have doubled the lead four minutes later when clean through but he was thwarted by Wilson and, within a minute, Dulwich were level. Kevin James was released through the middle and confidently converted to level the scores.

Whitehawk came close again in the 25th minute as Martin crossed and Mills headed back towards Robinson but the ball evaded his leap. Phil Wilson then had to save twice from Deering.before Whitehawk took the lead Once again Dulwich felt aggrieved as Matt Drage headed the ball behind for a corner and was then clearly caught in the head by a high boot. However, the referee ignored this and the subsequent corner was headed in by Mills.

Dulwich pushed forward and a ball over the top from Sankofa found James in the clear but he couldn't lift the bouncing ball over Ross. Right on half time a Danny Waldren cross caused a scramble in the box but nobody was able to get a shot on goal.

Half Time 2-1

The home side came out after the break looking for a third goal and Wilson had to claw the ball over from a Mills header. Ijaha then fired over before they got the third in the 57th minute. A cross from the Dulwich left was met at the far post by Mills who looped a header over Wilson.

Dulwich came close to pulling one back 2 minutes later as a cross from Waldren reached Carew at the far post. He controlled well but his shot was deflected over.

The Hamlet found a way back into the game with 15 minutes remaining as Damian Scannell was bundled over in the box and Ashley Carew converted the resulting penalty.

Dulwich pushed for an equaliser but Waldren had a shot easily saved by Ross and Dean McDonald blazed over when well placed. At the other end Sankofa had to produce an outstanding defensive header, and Wilson a fine save, to thwart the Hawks.

With Dulwich pushing forward they were caught by a quick break in the fourth minute of added time. Mills was released just past half way and advanced before thumping an unstoppable cross shot past Wilson.
