With Kenny Beaney, Gavin Tomlin and Dumebi Dumaka all not available there were a number of changes necessary. Daniel Carr came in whilst there was a welcome return for Ibrahim Kargbo.
At one stage it seemed there would only be one half of football for the large contingent of Hamlet fans to enjoy, as a major power cut throughout Winchester looked likely to see the game finish early. However, as half time approached power was restored,
This was certainly nowhere near as fluid a performance as in recent weeks but it was full of grit and determination that resulted in a fourth straight win.
There was a premium on chances with the first save being from an Ibra Sekajja shot on the turn in the 5th minute. Lewis Noice in the home goal gathered low to his left.
Home winger Adam Roberts went on a direct run through the Dulwich right back area after Nyren Clunis had given the ball away but Marc Weatherstone and Matt Drage crowded him out.
The home side went very close with a 23rd minute header by centre half Robbie Mahews which was just wide but it was Dulwich who grabbed the lead three minutes later.
A rare fluid passing move on the difficult surface resulted in Daniel Carr firing in a shot on the turn that produced a fine save from Noice. However, when Vas Karagiannis delivered the resulting corner, the keeper seemed distracted by the presence of Matt Drage in front of him and was beaten to it by the onrushing Nathan Green, for what turned out to be the only goal,
Dulwich pushed forward looking for a second but rarely created anything of note other than an Ibra Sekajja effort that Noice pushed over. At the other end, any threats were snuffed out in front of Preston Edwards, meaning the Dulwich keeper was only stretched on one occasion,
Half Time 0-1
If the first half had been low key, the second was almost devoid of action, especially from a Dulwich perspective. The home side came out fired up and pushed The Hamlet back but, for all their possession, they failed to create much.
Mathews flicked another header wide and, for Dulwich, Vas Karagiannis fired wide on the break. The home side certainly pushed Dulwich back but the new found defensive cohesion kept them at bay for the majority of the half; in fact Preston Edwards remained untroubled throughout and Michael Chambers was impeccable on the left side of the defence.
It was only in the last ten minutes that Winchester got a decent sight of the Dulwich goal. A cross by Joe Briggs from the Dulwich left was hooked back at the far post but, despite some hesitation, Edwards was able to eventually gather.
In fact, Marc Weatherstone could have made the game safe with seven minutes remaining when he couldn't keep his shot down from only six yards out, as he got on the end of an Ashley Carew free kick,
However, with 90 minutes up the home side had a great opportunity to force the replay they probably deserved for effort and endeavour alone. A cross from the Dulwich left found Craig Feeney unmarked but he seemed to mistime his header and it went harmlessly over the bar.
